Union Minister of State
for Agriculture and Food Processing Charandas Mahant has written a letter to
Union Forest and Environment Minister Jayanti Natrajan and complained that permission
for expansion granted by the state government to Lanco Amarkantak Power Limited
was against norms and illegal.
“The company was
supposed to conduct public hearing before acquiring lands for the project. In public
hearing, it should have redressed the grievances of the villagers dwelling in
the ambience of the project area. But Lanco did not followed any norm,” Mahant
said.
He further pointed that
despite Korba being one of the highest polluted regions of the country and ban
on new industrial activities in the area, the government granted it permission
for expansion.
