RTE crucial for societal development: Kangale


Three-day national seminar on RTE begins at RSU

The director of Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission Reena Baba Saheb Kangale says that Right to Education (RTE) Act is essential for development of society and country. She expressed this view while she was speaking at inaugural ceremony of three-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on RTE – challenges and implementation at Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) on Friday. The seminar is being organised by Institute of Teachers’ Education.

Kangale also spoke on constitutional provisions under RTE. She felt that light of education needed to be propagated to every nook and corner of the country.

Presiding over the programme, the RSU vice chancellor Prof Shiv Kumar Pandey said development of education would only be possible when every individual of the society will realise his responsibility.

The director of Hindi Granth Academy Ramesh Nayyer said it is easy to make attractive format of the policies but very difficult to implement it practically.

Pointing towards different in education system in government and non-governmental schools, he said the country was divided into two parts – the government and the society.

The state representative of Child Right Commission Gautam Bandhopadhyay said education is society’s basic right and everyone should get it. He said besides mandatory free education for children from 6-14 years of age the education should be based on quality and values. He emphasised on taking of special steps to provide education to children of disturbed areas. He said the success of RTE lies on equal contribution of teachers, parents, students and public representatives.

The coordinator of the organising committee for seminar Balram Prasad Jhariya informed that registration of 235 persons was done for the seminar. On the first day of the seminar, 50 participants presented their research papers.

The objective of the seminar is to hold discussion over challenges of RTE, how to implement RTE successfully and to provide wider platform for research scholars and students to interact with renowned educationists.

The other subjects on which seminar will focus are – administrative problems in implementing RTE, academic problems in implementing RTE, merits, demerits and challenges of RTE, public private partnership in implementing RTE, universalisation of education, RTE and adolescence education programme, education for women’s equality, the schemes for pounding quality education in madarasas, national-means-cum-merit scholarship and information and technology in school.
