Chhattisgarh polls: Sonia flays BJP for failing to curb naxals

Raipur, November 07
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday flayed BJP government in Chhattisgarh for failing to curb naxalism despite receiving adequate help from the Centre. “The BJP government has done nothing to contain Maoists. It is lawlessness in the State that resulted in incidents like Darbha on May 25 in which our senior leaders lost their lives. In last ten years, several innocent people got killed in naxal incidents. When the Centre provided full help to the government to deal extremists then why it failed? Though this government makes empty claims of giving good governance in the State, it has lost public trust,” she said while addressing huge rally in Kondagaon under Bastar division under party’s campaign to woo voters.
She said CM Raman Singh’s admission of security lapse after May 25 incident would never fill void in Congress which lost a whole lot of its top-rung leaders. “What is the use of shedding crocodile tears now when your government has failed to protect our leaders,’ she asked.
She further lashed at the government for failing to check migration despite implementation of MNREGA. “The Centre started this scheme for poor who usually migrate to other states in search of job. Unfortunately in Chhattisgarh, migration continues,” she added.
“We have always taken steps in favour of the poor and our new land acquisition law is also aimed to benefit them. The Centre had given ample fund to Chhattisagrh but development is missing in the State,” she said.
She promised of providing rehabilitation package to the people affected by naxal violence in Chhattisgarh if Congress would come to power.
“The BJP government is deceiving people of Chhattisgarh. The Congress believes in connecting people. It has history of sacrifices. The BJP, on the other hand, believes in divide and rule,” she said.
