Cabinet expansion: Miffed MLAs to complain Gadkari

Raipur, May 29, 2010

The induction of Dayaldas Baghel as Commerce and Industry Minister has created factions in the state BJP unit. Some of the MLAs feel that Chief Minister Raman Singh should have pondered well before considering Baghel’s name for his Cabinet expansion. They said the decision was taken in haste and without achieving consensus over a particular name.
These legislators are reportedly planning to express their displeasure over Singh’s monopolistic attitude on significant matters to before party’s national president Nitin Gadkari at Goa in June first week where the performance of BJP-led state governments would be assessed and the ministers and MLAs would share notes on good governance.
One of the senior legislators informed that none of the Core group members except Durg Parliamentarian Saroj Pandey were in favour of giving minister’s berth to Baghel when Singh had proposed his name. The Parliamentary Secretaries, too, were anticipating that Singh would designate the minister’s profile to any one of them.
The MLAs are also upset with some of the nominations for state corporations and boards. They said Singh completely ignored the names of senior legislators when he planned to assign key responsibilities.
The legislators from backward class pointed that Singh’s Cabinet lacked caste balance as Baghel was the second representative of Satnami Samaj among ministers after Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punnulal Mohle.
However, Singh has denied any dissent in his party and said that Baghel was unanimous choice and he was picked from the long list of eligible candidates. He has hinted that the many MLAs would get significant task in the Organisation.
The MLAs said they would raise their objection over all the issues before Gadkari and would request him to demand clarification from Singh pertaining to his distrust over senior leaders.
