Sindhi centre opens at IGNOU




A centre for Sindhi Language and Culture to promote Sindhi language was opened at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) by Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal recently at varsity auditorium in New Delhi. On the occasion, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik and vice-chairman of National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (NCPSL) Ramesh Warlyani were also present. Warlyani informed that the centre would begin session from January 2012.
Warlyani further informed that the centre would offer eight levels of study - a foundation course for bridging disciplines programmes, certificate for reading, writing and speaking Sindhi language, diploma, advanced diploma, post graduate degree, MPhil and PhD. He said the centre would help bringing massive development in Sindhi community having population over one crore.
He said Sibal in his address portrayed the Sindhi Centre as a landmark in the United Progressive Alliance's pursuit of inclusive growth. “Sibal said Sindhi is the only language which is not confined to any particular state among the modern Indian languages,” added Warlyani.
On the occasion, IGNOU vice chancellor VN Rajaskharan Pillai, Pro VC PR Ramanujam and ISLRTC Director Madan Vashishta were also present.
