Govt’s disaster management fails: Jogi

Raipur, August 20, 2012

Senior Congress legislator Ajit Jogi on Monday said that the government’s disaster management had completely failed as it had not yet succeeded in normalising life in flood-hit Bastar division.
“The Bastarians incurred huge loss in terms of life and property during recent downpour that flooded many regions of the division. However, the government disaster management department could not take measures to improve situation in the tribal belt at war-foot as was expected from it,” pointed Jogi.
He said the Chief Minister Raman Singh was merely taking stock of the situation from the officials through video conferencing and was completely unaware of the ground reality.
“The government should immediately shift the flood-hit people to safer places and provide them necessary materials including proper compensation,” he demanded.
He said it is an irony that despite receiving ample fund for disaster management from Centre the state government could not make use of it properly.
