Caste politics: Now OBC backs Jogi

Raipur, August 23, 2013

With nearing elections, caste politics is brewing in state again. Thanks to senior Congress MLA Ajit Jogi who is persistently endeavouring to rekindle hopes of scheduled caste community that his party would take care of it if given mandate in upcoming polls. In doing so; to his surprise, Jogi found big chunk of supporters in the form of other backward class (OBC) – a delegation of which on Friday put trust on him by paying courtesy visit at his residence.

The delegation under the banner of Chhattisgarh Rajya Pichhda Varg Vikas Sangthan (CRPVVS) invited Jogi to attend series of OBC conference that would be organised in every district from first week of September 2013 from Balodabazar. On the occasion, Jogi said he had always struggled for OBC, provided it too remains conscious.

Notably, despite being tempted to distribute tickets on the basis of caste equilibrium, Congress decided to go with party vice president Rahul Gandhi’s formula to increase its vote percentage in every section.

The BJP, on the other hand, has evidently made it clear that it would never play caste politics during polls.

Earlier, the heads of different communities under CRPVVS held meetings at Motibagh, Collectorate garden and Neelkantheshwar Dham and expressed their concern over neglected condition of OBC.

The CRPVVS felt that ignoring Jogi could cost dear to Congress in assembly elections as its chances of victory would diminish.
