Jogi for President's rule in state

Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi on Thursday urged United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to impose President's rule in Chhattisgarh while alleging that the Raman Singh government had miserably failed to contain the naxal violence.
Offering his condolence to the bereaved families of the 27 CRPF martyrs who fell prey to naxal bullets in the Narayanpur massacre, Jogi said, “The state's anti-naxal policy needs to be completely overhauled with the imposition of President's rule till normalcy is restored in the region.”
He urged all the 11 ruling BJP legislators of naxal-affected Bastar region to exert pressure on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command to take effective steps for early resolution of the naxal problem.
The legislators of the regions should also come forward with a concrete plan for reopening of all educational institutions which were closed down during the last 5-6 years and to provide health care and potable drinking water to the people of Bastar, he said.

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak on Thursday once again reiterated that the prime agenda of the RMC was to make the city clean. She said the municipal aimed to maintain transparency in its sanitary works and would not tolerate delay in given targets.
She said the RMC would soon write the names of sanitation contractor and workers along with their mobile numbers either in front of corporators’ office or in public places of the wards.
“We will also distribute the areas for sanitation workers and mention it in the information board so that local residents could easily know whether the total number of workers remain present at work or not,” she added.
In addition, everyday the sanitation contractors would have to take attendance of the workers at morning and afternoon at the place specified by the civic authorities. Nayak has further directed the officials to constitute vigilance team to monitor the cleanliness works in the wards and to keep an eye on truant workers. 
She said the vigilance team would regularly submit its comprehensive report about the functioning of sanitary gangs on the basis of which the civic authorities would take action against those sanitation contractors and their workers who would be found insincere at work.
She said the team would also inform whether the cleanliness works being carried out by the sanitation contractors were satisfactory and according to municipal norms or not. “We will cancel the contract of the particular sanitation contractor who would not meet our demands,” said Nayak.


Tiwari demands FIR against fourlane project contractor

Leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari has demanded from the RMC administration to lodge FIR against DS Construction Company, the contracting agency for fourlane project at Ring Road No 1 holding it responsible for waterlogging in Dharam Nagar.
Tiwari who is on indefinite strike with his demands from June 30, 2010 informed that the fourlane project had also affected the normal life of Chhattisgarh Nagar, Priyadarshini Nagar, Tagore Nagar and Sanjay Nagar where the problem of waterlogging had loomed large.
Tiwari said that the DS Construction Company had closed the old culvert that was constructed in the direction of natural water flow and had constructed a new culvert through which excess water accumulated in the nearby areas, especially Dharam Nagar hardly flow and eventually cause waterlogging problem.
He also blamed the RMC for its delayed start of nullah construction work at Ring Road No 1 near Dharam Nagar just two months before monsoon. “The nullah is still under-construction and creating problem for the local residents,” Tiwari said. He fears that Dharam Nagar would completely submerge if it would rain for a couple of hours.


 ‘Pt RSU V-C not giving appointment to students’

The Vice-Chancellor of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) Prof SK Pandey is deliberately not giving appointment to the students due to which those who are coming from distant places with their complaints and demands could not understand whom to contact in the varsity campus. The allegation was leveled by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) who demanded from Pandey to simply the process of taking appointment to meet him.
The NSUI state president Sanjeev Shukla informed that about 40 girls from different colleges of Bagbahra, Pithora, Gariyaband, Dongargarh and Nayapara-Rajim arrived in the capital to meet Pandey pertaining to their exam results on June 29, 2010, but they were denied permission by the varsity administration.
When the girls did not get receive any response from Pandey till July 1, 2010, they sought help from Shukla who along with other NSUI members on Thursday reached the varsity campus and shouted slogans against university administration and demanded to allow girls to meet the Vice-Chancellor.
It was only after an hour when the police administration intervened, the varsity administration permitted the girls to meet Pandey.
Mocking the process of appointment with the Vice-Chancellor, Shukla said Pandey should instead heed to the problems of every student, especially those who come from distant places.
Notably, if a student would wish to meet the Vice-Chancellor, he would have to obtain pass from Students’ Welfare Officer (SWO) who would first demand written application from the particular student’s college principal. The application is then tabled in the meeting during which it is decided whether the student should be allowed to meet the Vice-Chancellor or not.

Farewell to Sathwane

The RMC bid farewell to Assistant Superintendent of Public Works Department Yashoda Sathwane as she got retired on Thursday. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak presented shawl, shreephal and memento to Sathwane during the farewell programme organised at municipal office. On the occasion, RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, MiC member Rakesh Dhotre, Kallu Satnam Singh Panag, Purushottam Dewangan, Superintendent Engineer SK Tiwari, Health Officer Dr Amrit Chopra, Executive Engineer KK Singh and large number civic officials and employees also present.

Review meeting

The RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava on Thursday reviewed the progress of ongoing development works being carried out in all the wards in Zone-3. During the meeting, Shrivastava said he would review the progress of works every month and asked the Zone Commissioner Subhash Chandrakar and all the officials to provide updated information about the zone in next meeting. He said all the works should be completed within the given timeframe and quality should be maintained according to municipal norms. He further instructed the officials to redress the public grievances quickly. Shrivastava categorically cautioned that stern action would be taken against the officials if he would receive complaints from the residents of any ward that their problems were not being solved in spite of repeated information to relevant authorities.  He also asked the officials to improve the basic facilities like road, water and electricity in every ward.

Road construction over 17,000 km done

The state government has completed construction of 3731 roads in the rural areas stretching in about 17,111 km under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) till May 2010.  The Union government had approved about 25,500 km long 5320 new roads for the rural pockets in the state in the past ten years. The information was provided during the meeting of Vigilance and Monitoring Committee that held at Mantralaya under the chairmanship of Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ramvichar Netam on Thursday.

Dharna against price rise

The BJP state unit president Ramsewak Paikra has appealed to the party workers and common mass to participate in the party’s dharna against price rise at 3 pm at Gandhi Maidan on Friday and make it successful. Paikra said the Congress-led UPA government at Centre had lost control over the prices of daily use commodities including fuel and had betrayed the common man. He said price rise in the UPA’s last six-year tenure had broken all records of the past sixty years that was an indicator of true face of Congress. Paikra said the fuel price hike would soon affect the prices of other commodities and it would be impossible for common man to survive in the backdrop of rising inflation.

Meeting for unemployment allowance on July 12

The meeting of municipal’s selection committee to prepare a list of unemployed persons for unemployment allowance would be held in Pt Ravishankar Shukla hall at RMC head office on July 12, 2010. The coordinator of the selection committee would be the president of municipal’s Revenue Department Amit Das while the members of the committee would be president of General Administration Department Anwar Hussein, president of Women and Child Development Department Anamika Sahu and president of Education Department Deenbandhu Singh Thakur.


Workshop on rainwater harvesting on July 3

The people of Zone-8 would learn about the benefits of rainwater harvesting system during a day-long workshop that would be organised by the RMC at its Mahoba Bazar based Zone Commissioner office from 11 am to 5 pm on July 3, 2010. In the workshop, the groundwater expert Giri Goswami will inform people about all the technical details and benefits of the most effective method of water conservation method, i.e. rainwater harvesting system. The Zone-8 Commissioner Rakesh Gupta informed that Goswami also give demo of rainwater harvesting system and its working process. Gupta informed that the municipal had made it mandatory to install rainwater harvesting system in the houses or buildings constructed over 500 square feet area under Municipal Act and land Development Law, but one would have to first submit security amount in the civic office to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) for it. The people owning houses constructed from 500 sq ft to 1000 sq ft area would have to pay Rs 14,000 as security amount, Rs 20,000 for houses constructed from 1001 sq ft to 2000 sq ft area, Rs 40,000 for houses constructed from 2001 sq ft to 5000 sq ft area and Rs one lakh for houses constructed over 5000 sq ft area.
