RMC imposes Rs 5000 fine on Shamiyana Palace


For throwing garbage on road and nearby areas

The RMC on Wednesday imposed Rs 5000 fine on Civil Lines-based Shamiyana Palace for throwing garbage including waste food materials on road and nearby areas. The fine was imposed on the owner of Shamiyana Palace after Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak during her inspection in the locality learnt from the local residents that the people who take edifice on rent for marriage and other function usually throw all the garbage in the surrounding areas recklessly.
Nayak directed officials to warn all the owners of the marriage palaces to avoid throwing garbage in the public places or else the municipal would not hesitate in taking stern action against them besides imposing heavy fine.
When she reached Utkal basti near Shamiyana Palace, she learnt that the septic tank of the Sulabh toilet was overflowing. She immediately asked the officials to empty the septic tank using suction pump. Similarly, the residents of Utkal basti behind All India Radio (AIR) building informed Nayak that they were getting polluted water for the past several days owing to leaking pipeline near under-construction Sulabh toilet. Taking serious note on the complaints, Nayak asked the officials to quickly repair the pipeline and to also complete the construction works of Sulabh toilet.
Earlier, Nayak visited the area around and Amardeep talkies road and inspected the under-construction mutton market. She also held talks with the four mutton shop owners and convinced them to vacate their space for construction of staircase for the mutton market.
Notably, the RMC is constructing mutton market in the area with an aim to organise the mutton shops under one roof and to smoothen the road traffic. There are 52 shops in the mutton market of which 48 had been already allotted. On the spot, the mutton shop owners demanded from Nayak to provide round the clock water facility to them on which she assured to conduct survey of the edifice and to take positive decision in their favour.

Mayor inspects RMC’s sanitation drive
Raipur, June 30: Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak on Wednesday inspected RMC’s sanitation drive under which she visited various parts of the city. When she reached at Naveen market, she saw that the shopkeepers had thrown garbage on road instead of concrete litter bin at roadside. She asked the officials to ensure that the shopkeepers may comply with civic norms and use litter bin for throwing garbage.
She further instructed the officials to remove pucca construction done illegally by the shopkeeper besides Madrasi hotel on nullah at Malviya Road. The shopkeeper has constructed a drawing room over the nullah owing to which the municipal’s sanitation gangs are facing problem in removing filth and garbage from nullah.
During her visit to Telghani Naka area, she asked the officials to engage 3D machine to clean the nullah till bottom. She also inspected the cleaning works of nullah near Manglam hotel. She later inspected cleaning works of nullah at old bus stand and Moudhapara.
While inspecting the newly constructed nullah near Escorts hospital, she directed the officials to connect it with the old nullah flowing on the other side of the Jail Road for proper drainage.

4 quintal rotten fruits, vegetables seized

A joint team of RMC and Food and Drug Administration Department on Wednesday inspected the fruit and vegetable markets of the city and seized about four quintal rotten fruits and vegetables. The inspection was done in Jawahar market, Shastri Bazar and Lalpur fruit market. The team cautioned the fruit and vegetable vendors not to sell rotten items to the customers and to avoid creating insanitation in their ambience by throwing garbage. The team further warned the vendor not to ripen the fruits using carbide gas or any other type of chemicals.

BJP gears up for dharna against price rise on July 2

The BJP has appealed to the people to support it in its dharna against the price rise in the country at Gandhi Maidan on July 2, 2010. The senior BJP leaders informed that the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and party’s other national leaders would also participate in the dharna. The BJP had called upon a meeting of the party workers pertaining to dharna on Wednesday evening.
Addressing the party workers, PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal especially appealed to the womenfolk to participate in the dharna in large number to oppose the policies of the UPA government at Centre that led to price rise.
Agrawal said the Congress had once again deceived the common man and its double standards unleashed with its decision to hike the fuel prices recently. The Congress had made tall promises to the people during the elections, but its top leaders have maintained mysterious silence in wake of price rise, he added.
The BJP’s district president Rajeev Agrawal asked the party worker to do preparations for dharna at Mandal, ward and booth levels.
On the occasion Sachchidanand Upasne, party’s district general secretary Ashok Pandey, Shyam Sundar Agrawal, Sunil Soni, Sanjay Shrivastava, Channi Verma, Gowardhan Khandelwal, Vardhman Surana and other party workers were present.

104.2 mm rainfall in state

The state has recorded 104.2 mm rainfall during the current monsoon season from June 1 to 30. Last year, the state had recorded 48.8 mm rainfall during the same period. According to information provided by the officials of Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Jagdalpur has recorded maximum rainfall in this season, i.e. 201.5 mm. The rainfall recorded in the other districts is – Koria – 16.9 mm, Sarguja – 48.1 mm, Jashpur – 78 mm, Raigarh – 141.9 mm, Mahasamund – 112.7 mm, Raipur – 59.5 mm, Janjgir-Champa – 50.5 mm, Korba – 61.4 mm, Bilaspur – 59.1 mm, Kabeerdham – 71.6 mm, Rajnandgaon – 149.7 mm, Durg – 150.8 mm, Dhamtari – 97.6 mm, Kanker – 115.2 mm, Narayanpur – 113.8 mm, Dantewada – 188 mm and Bijapur – 158.9 mm.


Cong demands from govt to step down

Says it failed to curb naxal violence in the state

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has demanded from the government to step down on moral grounds in the aftermath of naxal violence in Narayanpur district on June 30, 2010 that killed about 26 security personnel.
Condemning the naxal attack, the PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and the working presidents Charandas Mahant and Satyanarayan Sharma on Wednesday said in a joint release that the government had completely failed in curbing naxalism in the state. “The Maoists are continuously targeting the security personnel sticking to their old strategy, but the government looks helpless in dealing them,” the trio said.
They also held the government’s intelligence department for failing to foil the naxal plan. “In spite of Centre’s support, the government had not formulated any effective strategy to tackle the naxal menace owing to which several jawans and innocent tribals are being killed by the extremists regularly,” they said.
The trio further demanded from the government to fix responsibility and tighten its noose on state police and administration.
The alleged that law and order had been disrupted in the state due to government’s apathy and people were feeling insecure.


Tribute to martyrs

The District Congress Committee (Raipur Urban and Rural) on Wednesday paid tribute the martyr jawans who were killed in the naxal attack in Narayanpur district on June 30, 2010. The DCC said the government must ensure that such incidents should not reiterate in the state. On the occasion DCC in-charge general secretary Suresh Mishra, Mahendra Chhabra, Girish Dewangan, Ramlal Bhardwaj, Udho Prasad Verma, Sunil Maheshwari, Alok Mishra and other Congress workers were present.


Meeting on July 2

Congress has called upon a meeting of Raipur district’s all the block presidents and Block Returning Officers (BRO) pertaining to upcoming organisational elections of District Congress Committee (Raipur Urban and Rural) at 2 pm in Congress Bhawan on July 2, 2010. The meeting would be chaired by party’s District Returning Officer Ramesh Dakalia. In the meeting, the names of the candidates for elections as well as the other aspects would be discussed. The DCC in-charge general secretary Suresh Mishra informed that Dakalia would also issue necessary guidelines to the BEOs during the meeting.
