RSU starts rechecking of BCA final year maths papers

82 students had received zero mark

Raipur, June 29, 2010

Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) has commenced rechecking of the maths papers of BCA final year that after a number of students who received zero mark in the particular subject created scene at the varsity premises and questioned its entire valuation system.
The checking is being done by the Mathematics department head Prof HK Pathak who prima facie found that the students had scarce knowledge about the subject. Pathak would also conduct an inquiry into this controversial matter in two phases before submitting his comprehensive report to the Vice Chancellor Prof SK Pandey.
Notably, about 82 students had received zero in maths paper but the irony is that a number of them are top rankers in their previous semesters. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), too, had supported the students in their demand of probe into the matter from the varsity and rechecking of the papers. The erroneous results of maths subject had also taken aback the senior officials including Secretary Higher Education MK Raut.
The varsity organised the examinations of BCA final year in April 2010 and announced the results on June 25, 2010. The BCA course, which is being run in about twenty colleges affiliated with the RSU, had only 48 percent examination result this year. The students who got zero marks are studying in the colleges based at capital city.
According to information, Pathak is checking papers of only those students who had received zero mark. He admits that the fault could be of even the teachers who were engaged in checking. Pathak will submit his reports on July 2, 2010.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor says that he was not surprised by big volume of zero scorers as such things usually happen in examinations. Pointing out that the BCA final year results had been quite low, he said how could the students expect good marks in the exams if they would not write anything.  He, however, added that probe had been ordered and if it would be confirmed that the blunder had been committed by the evaluators then stern action would be taken against them.
