Nullah in Bombay Market not been cleaned for 20 yrs!

Due to construction of Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries building over it

Raipur, May 24, 2010

The nullah passing through Bombay Market in the heart of the city has not been cleaned for about 20 years. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, who inspected the area on Monday, said that cleaning works had been hampered because Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) had raised its building over the nullah. Similarly, a dhaba, which is being operated for several years in the area, has also been constructed over the nullah.
Nayak says that the cleanliness of the nullah was not possible because there was no manhole in the area. “Unless our sanitation gang gets access to the nullah, at least through manholes, it is not possible to clean it,” Nayak said.
Notably, the Bombay Market, the areas around Raj talkies and Coffee House at GE Road frequently witness water logging problems during rains owing to overflowing nullah. “Considering this, we have recently removed an encroachment over the nullah besides the Raj talkies. But we would have to clean the entire nullah to prevent reiteration of water logging problem in the ambience of Bombay Market,” Nayak said.
“After winning the election, I had inspected Bombay Market and other areas that usually remain inundated during rains and had asked the RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary and Health Officer Dr Amrit Chopra to ensure cleanliness of the area before monsoon but they had rubbed their hands on pretext of no funds,” she added.
When asked how the RMC would clean the nullah, Nayak said, “It is not possible to clean it before this rainy season. I have directed the officials bring out some effective solution to clean it without affecting the CCCI building.”
Asked whether she would seek help of CCCI in this connection, Nayak said she would hail such gesture from the organisation.
When contacted, Choudhary was not available for comment. On the other hand, some of the officials feel that Choudhary should order probe into the matter that how the CCCI managed to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) to construct building over the nullah.

No outbreak of contagious diseases in Tilak Nagar

RMC conducts health test in 150 houses

Ex-corporator spreading rumour, alleges Dewangan

Raipur, May 24, 2010

The report about spreading of contagious diseases in Tilak Nagar (Bal Gangadhar Tilak ward) proved to be a mere rumour as the RMC on Monday conducted health test in 150 houses of the area and found none suffering from any such problem. The local corporator Purushottam Dewangan has alleged that rumour had been spread by the ex-corporator.
“I would request to the ex-corporator Shree Kumar Menon to stop misleading people and diffusing false reports about outbreak of communicable diseases in the locality,” said Dewangan.
“I do not know what his intentions are, but by committing this sort of mistake, he is simply inviting wrath of the local residents,” he added.
Dewangan advised Menon to put aside the party politics and to help him and the municipal in providing better facilities in the ward.
On Monday, a joint team of the RMC Health department’s administrative and medical staff conducted health survey in Tilak Nagar and conducted medical test in 150 houses. The team was led by Assistant Health Officer and in-charge of Kalibadi Isolation Centre Dr Bhagyalaxmi Rao.
The doctors also distributed 2000 chlorine tablets in the area. The team urged residents either to drink boiled water or to disinfect it using chlorine tablet. Later, the doctors informed that none of the residents complained about any contagious disease during their visit.

Power companies plan to hike power tariff

New tariff can go up to Rs 3 per unit

Raipur, May 24, 2010

The power companies are planning to hike the power tariff by almost two folds of the existing rate. In this regard, the Chhattisgarh State Power Production Company Limited (CSPDCL), Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company Limited (CSPTCL) and Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) have sent a business plan of their income and expenditure to Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) with a proposal of about Rs 24,000 crore for approval.
According to information, if the CSERC would approve the business plans of the three companies then the consumers in residential areas would have to pay Rs 3 per unit as against the existing rate of Rs 1.60 per unit.
In the proposal, the companies have suggested that the loss incurred due to power theft cases should be compensated by increasing the power tariffs. The business plans of the companies indicate that their expenditure has been jumped from 17 to 25 percent just in one year of their formation. The companies wish to recover their expenditure, too, from the consumers in terms of higher tariff.
The companies say that their expenditure suddenly skyrocketed owing to hefty pay-scales of their officials and employees and because of increased purchase of coal and other materials. However, none of these reasons are reported to be true as the companies themselves are responsible for their inflated expenditure.
Notably, the officials and employees had strongly opposed formation of the power companies. A number of officials were even planning to quit job. To placate the angry officials, the all the three companies promoted them in bulk, informed sources.
Some of the officials and employees say that if the companies would not have to hike power tariff if they would succeed in curbing 32 percent line loss.

RMC constructed new nullah without informing Mayor!

In Anand Nagar

Nullah is technically flawed

Even local corporator was unaware about the work

Raipur, May 24, 2010

The RMC has constructed a new nullah in Anand Nagar without informing Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak. Strangely, even the local corporator from Shaheed Veernarayan Singh ward Seema Santosh Sahu was also unaware about the project who learnt about it just a couple of days back when a delegation of Anand Nagar society informed her. The nullah is completely dry and has not yet been connected with the drainage system.
Sahu’s spouse allege that the officials had kept the technical aspects aside while constructing the nullah owing to which its utility factor was in question. While the local residents sniff corruption in this project.
Nayak, who visited the area on Monday after being informed by Sahu about new nullah, was completely surprised when she saw it. She promptly summoned Executive Engineer (Planning) Manoj Singh Thakur and Zone-4 Commissioner Vinod Dewangan and inquired how the nullah was constructed without her knowledge.
Nayak directed both the officials to conduct the physical survey of the new nullah once again and to submit a comprehensive report mentioning the technical flaws and giving suggestions to make it according to the norms.
The local corporator Sahu also expressed her displeasure that the RMC administration kept the project covert. When she asked from Thakur why she was not informed about it as she had right to know about all the development works being carried out in her ward, the latter said the specific works like construction of nullahs were being done by the RMC Commissioner who always inform about such project to the Mayor and the Speaker.
The RMC officials informed Nayak that the project was yet to the completed. But the work has been stopped about ten days back, said the residents. The nullah is about 8 feet wide, 6 feet deep and nearly 80 feet long.
