Cong rejects exit poll results, hopes to form govt

Raipur, December 06
Unfazed by exit poll results that have predicted BJP’s victory in four out of five states, Chhattisgarh Congress has assured party’s national vice president Rahul Gandhi that it would form government in the State. Gandhi, who held meeting of PCC’s top brasses at New Delhi to know their opinion regarding party’s victory chances, is said to be satisfied by State unit’s performance during polls.
Submitting party’s internal assessment report to Gandhi, PCC president Charandas Mahant reportedly told Gandhi that despite sabotage by dissidents in some of the constituencies, the official candidates managed to turn the swing in party’s side by campaigning round the clock.
Besides Mahant, Ajit Jogi, Ravindra Choubey, Rampukar Singh, TS Singhdeo, Amit Jogi, Ramgopal Agrawal, Bhupesh Baghel and other Congress leaders were present in the meeting. These leaders also submitted their report to Gandhi.
Sources informed that for the first time the State leaders refrained from complaining against each other in their reports and rather praised the PCC and high command for keeping the party united and spirited during polls.
According to information, Gandhi has asked the Congress leaders to keep a strict vigil in all the 90 constituencies during counting on December 8. He has also directed to some of the top-rung leaders to take their position in important cities on the D-day.
These leaders will have their own teams in each constituency. The job of these teams would be to provide latest updates to the incharge leaders who, in turn, would forward the information to the high command.
It is learnt that AICC treasurer Motilal Vora will remain present in state capital and keep an eye on 20 seats of Raipur division. The State Congress inchagre BK Hariprasada has been assigned Rajnandgaon district where he will oversee counting of votes for six constituencies.
AICC secretary Bhakta Charandas, who spent about a month in Bastar division during polls, has been asked to keep an account of counting in 12 seats of the tribal region. The State unit chief Charandas Mahant will take his position at Ambikapur city and will remain updated with the results in 14 seats of Sarguja division.
The incharge of Bilaspur division will be Ajit Jogi whose spouse and son have contested from Kota and Marwahi constituencies of the region. The division has a total of 24 seats and the party hopes to win at least 15 seats in this part.
