Chhattisgarh polls: Venkaiah blames Cong for rising Maoism, terrorism

Raipur, November 12
Former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu has held Congress responsible for rising Maoism and terrorism in the country. “Terrororism, Maoism and separatism are all offshoots of Congress party’s opportunistic policies, wrong thinking and wrong direction. The Congress’ handling of naxalism and terrorism is marked by political opportunism and ambivalence. It should answer who created Frankenstein’s monsters, Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale and V Prabhakaran of LTTE,” he said while interacting with newsmen at Raipur on Tuesday.
Terming assembly polls in five states including Chhattisgarh as semi-final, he said the BJP would not only win in four states but also in 2014 general elections. He said peaceful conduction of polls in first round in Chhattisgarh proved that ballot was powerful than bullet. “In democracy, only ballot can solve public problems, not bullet. This is basic principle of democracy,” he added.
He ridiculed Congress for not projecting CM candidates in five poll-bound states and PM candidate for 2014 general elections and said it should not hesitate in doing so. He said the BJP knew significance of former CM Ajit Jogi, but the Congress was scared of projecting his name as CM candidate because it did not want the ruling party to raise the controversial issues of Jogi’s tenure.
He also lashed at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for telling people at a rally that late PCC chief Nandkumar Patel, who got killed during May 25 naxal attack, was party’s CM candidate and said it was surprising that Gandhi made such significant announcement after Patel’s death.
Taking a dig at Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh for advising BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi to take history lessons after the latter mistakenly named Shyama Prasad mookherjee instead of Shyamaji Krishna Verma in his recent speech, Naidu said it was just a slip of tongue. “Why Singh does not utter any word when his party president errs? He was also supposed to be vocal when our foreign minister read speech of other nation’s president at the United Nations,” he said.
Slamming PM Manmohan Singh for his advice to BJPians to avoid using unparliamentary language during his recent Raipur visit, Naidu said if the PM was so concerned of unbecoming language being used in politics then why was he silent when top brasses of Congress including Sonia Gandhi used derogatory words against BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi.
“The Congress president calls Modi a merchant of death. Digvijay Singh calls him megalomaniac psychopath liar. One Congress spokesperson calls Modi Yamraj, while other dubs him as Ravana. Every Tom, Dick and Harry calls Modi, a leader who won elections three times hands down in a row and a most popular leader in the country, as fascist forgetting the fact that it was their party and leaders who murdered democracy, imposed emergency, imprisoned lakhs of people, introduced censorship, superseded the judges and crippled the fundamental rights. The PM, who was silent then, has now started giving lecture to BJP about the level of public debate. Let the Congress respond now,” he said.
He further said the Congress was responsible for all the problems and challenges faced by the country. “It has miserably failed on every front and betrayed the people on every promise made. That’s why it has no credibility and no moral right to seek votes,” he added.
“The Congress promised to bring down prices in 100 days, to bring back black money, to provide 33% reservation to women in all legislatures, to implement MS Swaminathan committee recommendations on agricultural reforms, to make Lokpal effective, to create Telangana immediately after coming to power, to provide two crore jobs every year, to complete six lane highways and bring reforms, but it betrayed on each and every promise. The last decade has been decade of betrayal. The result is disillusionment among every section,” he stated.
“Even the growth rate which was 8.4% during NDA’s tenure at Centre has come down to 4.8%, while the inflation which was 4.8% our term has now sprang above 10% now. Onions are sold at Rs 100 per kg. Fuel prices are going up continuously and resulting in heavy burden on common man,” he added.
“The UPA-1 reaped the fruits of what NDA sowed. The UPA-II reaped what UPA-1 sowed. In 2014, the NDA will reap the sins sowed by the UPA-II,” he said.
“The rupee has reached all-time low. There is steep decline in economic growth. Thousands of farmers are committing suicide and atrocities on women are continuing unabated. The international rating agencies too have downgraded India. Our country’s investors are running away and foreign investors are afraid to invest. Above all, the UPA government is neck deep in corruption. There is unprecedented corruption in every major decision of the government. It has broken all the records in corruption,” he said.
“This is the reason the BJP is giving the call for ‘Congress mukta Bharat’ (congress-free India). The Congress has weakened federal polity, shown discrimination against non-Congress governments, weakened and denigrated every institution, judiciary and constitutional bodies like EC, CAG, CVC, Human Rights Commission, etc. It has also misused and destroyed institutions like CBI, ED and Income Tax for its short-term political gains. Courtesy to CBI that the Congress is still in power, otherwise it would have lost majority much before,” he said.
He alleged that the CBI was misused to keep Congress allies under control, win over the neutrals, defame opponents, destabilise opposition governments and dilute the corruption cases against the ruling party.
“The UPA vacillates on foreign policy. Today, India is isolated in the neighbourhood. Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc are ignoring our country. In fact, all of them have developed disrespect towards India,” he said.
He felt that even on political front, the Congress did not know how to run a coalition government. “They do not have leadership and the country is suffering with policy paralysis. Hence, people want change and are waiting for an earliest opportunity to throw the UPA government out,” he said.
He pointed that the Congress was rattled with declaration of Modi as PM candidate. He said since Congress could not face him politically, ideologically and on his agenda of development, it had started mudslinging and indulging in name-calling.
“The Congress pressed ten union ministers into service and hired many professionals to unleash disinformation campaign against Modi. They do not have answer to Modi. They do not have a PM candidate. We want to fight elections on development agenda and our performance while the Congress wants to divert public attention from core issues,” he said.
