Congress ready for polls: Mahant

Raipur, Oct 04: Hailing Election Commission of India’s announcement of polling dates in five states, PCC president Charandas Mahant on Friday said Congress was ready for final battle.
“In this assembly polls, the Congress will take on BJP government for its grafts and deception. The party will also attack chief minister Raman Singh and his Cabinet ministers for their misconduct,” Mahant said.
“Presently, there is anti-BJP wave in entire Chhattisgarh. The people have made their mindset to throw the incumbent government. They want change and stability that will come only when Congress will regain power,” he said.
He pointed that the Congress would aggressively launch campaign against the government on issues like slashing of reservation quota of scheduled caste, lathicharge on tribals, fake encounter cases, rape of minors in Jhaliyamari, wrong allocation of mining leases, grafts in energy department, etc.
He urged state election commission to ensure political parties strictly follow code of conduct in state and the ruling party members may not misuse their posts and influence to affect polls. Meanwhile, he said, the Congress workers would keep a tab on such people.
He said with code coming into effect from Friday, all kinds of individual and party publicities through government advertisements should be stopped. He demanded for instant removal of banners, posters and billboards being put across the state at government’s expenditure.
Besides, he said, the government should be deterred in taking any decision which may affect voters.
He further demanded transparency in conduction of elections in five states including Chhattisgarh. “Moreover, the election commission should also ensure that poll staff may not become weapon in hands any political party,” he said.
