Naxals disrupt transportation network in Bastar

Raipur, October 14
Aiming to establish parallel government in Chhattisgarh through barrel of gun and refusing to acknowledge democratic process of election, the Maoists have disrupted transportation network in remote Dornapal area under Sukma district of Bastar division. Dornapal is a naxal-dominated area where the extremists have given shape to several ghastly incidents.
According to information, the insurgents have destroyed bridges, culverts and roads to prevent entry of police in about 25 villages of Dornapal. The road network in many of these villages was cut back in May-June 2013 and the areas had turned into islands with no connectivity with the rest of the world during rains.
An official in police headquarters (PHQ) said that the destructive act of the Maoists in Dornapal was an apparent warning to locals that their participation in election would cost them dear. “We know that many such situations will arise in coming days but we are confident of conducting peaceful polls in entire Bastar,” he said.
The sub-divisional officeer of police (SDOP) Dornapal Sanjay Dhruv admitted that the ultras had destroyed some of the bridges and roads, however, he said the sabotage would not deter the police movement in the region.
He said the naxals usually attempt to impact normal traffic flow in far-fetched areas, but the police know how to deal such circumstances.
Evidently, the extremists are concerned over increasing police activities in the region. Last month, the cops had opened a new camp in Burkapal village and a makeshift camp in Minpa hamlet close to Chintagufa police station.
Apprehending that if the police would open few more permanent camps in different villages till elections then they would have to recede from their stronghold area, the naxals decided to play spoilsport to police plan by damaging roads and bridges.
The insurgents have mainly targeted roads and bridges linking Chintagufa to Minpa, Bhejji and Dabbakonta. Besides, two bridges connecting Polampalli and Palamdhagu have been blasted.
They have also damaged Minpa-Tadmetla road. Tadmetla is the infamous place where 76 personnel of Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed by the ultras on April 6, 2010.
