Maoists kill head constable in Chhattisgarh


Raipur, October 12
Four Maoists killed one head constable by assaulting him with sharp-edged weapon in a weekly market of Kuwakonda under Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. They also attacked one sub inspector (SI), who received grave injuries, but is reported to be out of danger. After the incident, the naxals decamped along with Pandey’s rife and wireless set. The local police have cordoned off the area and started searching the ultras.
Dantewada SP Narendra Khare informed that the incident occurred when 22 cops, including head constable Gautam Pandey, led by SI Satyavadi Sahu were pressed on duty to guard people at Kuwakonda weekly market. The jawans took their position in the market in different teams.
Suddenly four Maoists assailed Pandey who was buying vegetables. Sahu, who was close to Pandey, managed to grab one extremist but the other three attacked him with sharp-edged weapon. Pandey and Sahu were immediately rushed to Kuwakonda primary health centre where the former succumbed to injuries during treatment.
