Raipur, October 03
Hundreds of Congress workers were held on Thursday noon while they were on way to gherao chief minister Raman Singh’s residence in protest of fake ration cards and irregularities in distribution of sewing machines and bicycles. The protestors also had minor clash with the police when they were forcibly stopped near Motibagh. All the arrested Congmen were kept in makeshift jail - Netaji Subhash stadium and released late at night.
As announced earlier, the Congress workers mustered at their Gandhi maidan-based state office on Thursday morning. At about 2:30 pm, they proceeded towards CM house in the form of a rally.
Meanwhile, the police had barricaded all the routes going towards CM house and pressed additional forces near Motibagh to stop the Congress rally.
Later, the party’s Raipur urban unit president Vikas Upadhyay claimed that their rally was also supported by the common people, especially ration cardholders who were not getting benefit of the government schemes due to issuance of ten lakh additional ration cards.
He alleged that the sewing machines and bicycles, meant to be distributed under government’s schemes, were being given either to the BJP workers or their dear ones.
The Raipur North legislator Kuldeep Juneja said development in state had decelerated under BJP’s two tenures. “The ruling party is deceiving poor and needy for the past ten years. Hence the people have decided to give mandate to Congress in upcoming assembly polls,” he added.
The Raipur municipal corporation mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said countdown of the corrupt BJP government had began and the people would teach it appropriate lesson in elections. She alleged that majority of the government schemes were benefiting only BJPians, not the actual beneficiaries.
