Govt focussing on youth: CM

Says opposition should feel pride on CG’s achievements

House passes motion of thanks proposed for Governor’s address through voice vote

Raipur, February 25, 2013

Chief minister Raman Singh says that his government is focussing on youth. “We have launched several new schemes for youngsters. Besides, we are creating jobs for locals in scheduled areas under district cadre system,” he said on the concluding day of debate on motion of thanks proposed by the ruling party to express gratitude to Governor’s address at state assembly on Monday. The House passed the proposed motion of thanks and rejected the opposition’s amendment proposals through voice vote.

The CM informed the House that state’s Swavlamban Pension Yojna was first of its kind in the country for non-institutional labourers. “Under this scheme, a labourer will get Rs 1000 every month after attaining 60 years of age. This will benefit about 450000 non-institutional labourers,” he said.

He felt that the opposition should feel pride of Chhattisgarh’s achievements instead criticising the government.

“Recently, Chhattisgarh’s one district and a gram panchayat received MNREGA awards. The award was given after a Central team toured two places. Unfortunately the opposition members, instead of hailing the state’s achievement, rather alleged that union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh gave these awards,” he said.

“The Congress has actually developed a habit to sulk whenever union ministers praise Chhattisgarh’s performance. The opposition members rather urge their Central ministers not to appreciate our government. But when these ministers see our state’s performance, they could not help extolling our efforts,” he said.

The CM extended his gratitude to President of India, prime minister and union ministers for providing requisite succor to the state for its development.

“I do not hesitate in thanking them. The opposition too should not hesitate in accepting that the state is progressing and therefore their ministers pat us,” he said. He informed the House that Chhattisgarh was among top three states in the country in development in social sector.

“Similarly, Chhattisgarh’s growth rate was among top five states during 11th five year plan,” he further informed.

He said after constituting new districts his government was planning to constitute new development blocks.
