91 toppers receive gold medals, 137 get PhDs


During RSU’s 17th convocation ceremony

Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) distributed 143 gold medals to 91 toppers and 137 PhDs on its 17th convocation ceremony that held at the varsity auditorium on Wednesday. Besides, 29090 students get bachelor and master degrees. Among the students were IAS officer KDP Rao who received gold medal in law and Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak who got PhD in law.
MBBS Anuradha Dawani from Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Raipur got highest number of gold medals totaling seven while the science graduate from St Thomas College Bhilai Nisha Singh won six medals. Similarly, V Harsha Rao got five medals while Jaimala Upadhyay, Ravi Shankar Rai, Prasenjeet Had, Shashi Kiran Baghel, Shilpa Kataria, Tarannum Sarvar Dani, Rishikesh Sahu, Reena Singh, Ipshita Ganguly, Ravindra Pratap Singh and Richa Sagne received three medals each.
The D Lit was conferred upon Dr Shriram Parihar, principal of Khandwa PG Girls College MP for his thesis on Hindi literature.
The year, the girls surpassed the boys again in the list of PhD and gold medal candidates. Among PhD recipients were 57 boys and 80 girls while there were 34 boys and 58 girls in the list of gold medal winners.
The highest number of the PhDs was given on Chemistry - 20 followed by Hindi - 13, English – 12 and Commerce - 11.
The PhDs distributed on other subjects were – Sanskrit – 2, Library and Information Science – 1, Political Science – 5, Economics – 5, History – 6, Sociology – 4, Geography – 6, Regional Studies – 1, Psychology – 6, Education – 6, Physical Education – 3, Management – 2, Law – 1, Physics – 4, Mathematics – 1, Statistics – 3, Anthropology – 3, Biology – 5, Zoology – 4, Botany – 4, Microbiology – 2, Pharmacy – 1, Engineering – 5 and Engineering Science – 1.
The chief guest of convocation ceremony was chairman of Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr DK Radhakrishnan while Governor and Chancellor Shekhar Dutt presided over the programme. Chief Minister Raman Singh who was supposed to be the distinguished guest in the programme could not turn up because of his Delhi visit. The special guests in the ceremony were - Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik, School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, Higher Education Minister Hemchand Yadavand Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak.
