Govt to check groundwater exploitation by industries


To establish aluminum plant after conducting survey in Sarguja

Decisions taken during the first meeting of Sarguja and North Region Tribal Development Authority

The state government will strictly comply with environment protection and groundwater conservation norms in the districts under Sarguja and North Region Tribal Development Authority (SNRTDA) range and take initiative to create more job opportunities for local youths. Besides, this, several other significant decisions were during the first meeting of SNRTDA that held under chairmanship of Chief Minister Raman Singh at New Circuit on Saturday.
Singh further assured the Authority that the government would soon conduct survey of Sarguja region to find the possibilities to establish aluminum plant considering the availability of huge amount of bauxite as natural resource. He said the government would also consider the proposals of private players regarding establishment of aluminum plant. However, he added that the government would not take any decision in haste and would first evolve consensus by inviting suggestions from public representatives and experts.
Considering rising crime rate in the remote areas, Singh also assured that the government would soon conduct police verification of all the workers, contractors and security guards working in the private sector. The state administration will then provide copies of verified list to the state local administrations, he said.
When Rajya Sabha member Nand Kumar Sai pointed that the problem of Sarguja and Jashpur residents who were affected by the wild elephants still loomed large, the CM said experts had been roped in to figure out effective solution. “The government is planning to do solar fencing in about 100 kilometers of forests where wild elephants live,” he said. Besides, the people whose houses are damaged by the elephants will get necessary aid under Indira Awas Yojana, he added. In this connection, he asked all the Collectors to send the demand letter.
Hailing Sai’s suggestions to encourage sporting talents in tribal areas through Authority, Singh said soon a work-plan would be framed in this connection.  
On reconstitution of large development blocks and formation of small development blocks, the CM said since the decision would be taken by the Centre, the government would send the proposal to it for approval after taking proposals district-wise.
On environmental pollution due fly ash, the CM said the industries would be instructed to store fly ash in moist form in yards. He said the women self help groups would be encouraged to operate fly ask brick industries.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar, Authority’s vice chairperson Renuka Singh, Lok Sabha members Murari Lal Singh and Vishnu Dev Sai, Rajya Sabha members Nand Kumar Sai and Shiv Pratap Singh, former Chief Minister and MLA Ajit Jogi, legislators Dr Renu Jogi, Nand Kumar Patel, Dharmjeet Singh and others.
