Dumartarai wholesale market to be ready by Diwali

The new wholesale market at Dumartarai will be completed before Diwali. The civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary on Saturday asked the officials to quickly complete the project so that wholesale markets spread disorderly in the city could be organised at one place for public convenience. Choudhary’s instructions came while he was reviewing the progress of Dumartarai project by inspecting the area along with the office-bearers of Chhattisgarh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (CCCI).
Choudhary informed that ten different associations of the businessmen had already consented for shifting of wholesale market from city to outskirts. This will also reduce mounting traffic pressure on the city roads, Choudhary said.
The wholesale markets of utensils, footwear, home appliances and general goods from Ganeshram Nagar, Amardeep talkies road, Nayapara and Gol Bazar would be shifted in Dumartarai.
Appreciating the pace Dumartarai project, the CCCI members led by their president Srichand Sundrani and general secretary Jeetendra Barlota suggested that the road traffic could be further improved by developing transport nagar at all corners of the city.
They said a new transport nagar plan should be framed under which the transporters should be provided space in different corners of the city to prevent long traffic jams.
Choudhary informed that the municipal would construct 185 shops in five blocks at Dumartarai. The area of each shop will be 6 sq m x 10.50 sq m with toilet and water facility.
The RMC will lay sewerage line as well as provide electricity, parking, banks and ATMs facilities to the wholesale businessmen in the area, Choudhary informed. Besides, a small transport nagar would also be developed in the locality for proper transportation of good, he said. He said he would inspect the progress of the projects every week along with CCCI members and would ensure that the quality of construction and development of planned wholesale market is maintained.


Congress intensifies campaign in Balod

The senior leaders of Congress including District Congress Committee (DCC) workers and RMC’s Congress corporators have intensified their campaign in Sanjari-Balod Assembly constituency in support of their party candidate Mohan Patel for the by-election slated to be held on February 14, 2011. “We are campaigning by distributing pamphlets, organising nukkad plays, mass meetings and door-to-door meeting with the local residents,” informed the Congress workers on Saturday. The PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and senior party leader Vidya Charan Shukla conducted a nukkad play and informed the residents that the BJP-led state government had promised the farmers during the Vidhan Sabha elections that it would pay Rs 270 bonus per quintal paddy after coming into power again but it was only paying Rs 50 bonus. The duo further informed that the government had also failed to keep its promise to provide free electricity to the farmers who have pump connections up to 5 HP for irrigation. The government gives only 688 units power free and then charges Rs 2.40 per unit, they added.  

Poll observers threatened independent candidate: BJP

The BJP has alleged that the poll observers at Sanjari-Balod Vidhan Sabha area had threatened and warned the independent candidate Ramzan Khan of dire consequences if Congress would not win the by-poll. In this connection, the BJP state president Ramsewak Paikra has sent a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and has sought action against the poll observers in Balod.
“Both the poll observers K Devanand and AK Dubey have given protection to the Congress leaders and workers who had come from different parts of the state in Sanjari-Balod constituency. We have lodged several complaints before the duo pertaining to violation of model code of conduct by the Congress leaders, but they had not taken any action so far,” Paikra said.
He alleged that the poll observers were one-sidedly targeting the BJP workers who campaigned in favour of their party candidate in Balod. “The poll observer AK Dubey is an income tax officer and his domain ranges from Madhya Pradesh to Chhattisgarh. He has threatened the BJP workers engaged in campaign of IT raid against them,” said Paikra.
He further charged that the poll observers were working as agents of Congress instead of discharging their duty as impartial representatives of ECI. “The poll observers have not even spared the Chief Minister Raman Singh and BJP’s poll campaigner PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and have uttered abusive words against them,” he added.  
“We have also complained to the observers that about 39 Congress leaders along with their supporters and anti-social elements were staying in the by-poll constituency even when the election campaign has halted before 48 hours of the polling date,” he said.
The list of Congress leaders sent to the ECI by BJP comprises of – PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, leader of Congress legislators’ party Ravindra Choubey, MLAs Tamradhwaj Sahu, Gurmukh Singh Hora, Lekhram Sahu, Kawasi Lakhma, Chaitram Sahu, Kuldeep Juneja, Agni Chandrakar, Pratima Chandrakar, Badruddin Quraishi, Bhajan Singh Nirankari, Raipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation Mayor Naresh Dakalia, Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Mayor Vani Rao Ajaz Dhebar, Rauf Quraishi, Uday Mudliyar, Haji Sheikh Nijamuddin, etc.


RMC will not construct kiosks in Gandhi Maidan!

Under Rs 58 lakh-beautification works of the historical ground

The municipal corporation will not construct kiosks in Gandhi Maidan as it had planned to do under Centre’s vendor policy to organise the open grounds for public meetings, rallies, exhibitions and trade fares in urban areas. The information was given by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak to senior Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla when the latter objected over the municipal’s plans to construct kiosks at one corner of the ground to rehabilitate the street vendors operating their business in thelas.
Replying through a letter to Shukla, Nayak said the Rs 56 lakh-project to beautify Gandhi maidan would remain unchanged however the street vendors would continue their business in thelas. 
The controversy over construction of shops sparked off after Nayak conducted bhoomipujan of Gandhi Maidan as the DCC too had expressed its displeasure over the plan.
The municipal had earlier planned to rehabilitate about 26 street vendors at one corner of the ground where shops would be constructed for them, but now these vendors would not be displaced.
According to project, the Gandhi Maidan would be leveled, fencing would be done around it to prevent entry of stray animals, pavers would be constructed in the inner circumference and the old platform would be replaced by the newer and attractive one. There will be three entry gates for the ground from three directions.
Nayak informed Shukla that the completion of project would impart better look to the ground and the organisations and parties that would organise rallies and public meetings there too would not have to face any inconvenience.

Over 1000 saplings to be planted in tribal hostel premises

The municipal corporation will plant over 1000 saplings in tribal hostel premises at Tilak Nagar in Bal Gangadhar ward (zone 1). The RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary issued directives to the officials of municipal’s Horticulture department after conducting spot inspection of tribal hostel on Saturday.
Choudhary said the plantation in the hostel premises would make the ambience greener and pollution free and the students would engross in studies with renewed energy. The RMC will He further said that the garden being developed in the hostel premises should be completed in given timeframe.
