BJPKM’s two-day national executive begins today

Raipur, February 25, 2011

The two-day national executive meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha (BJPKM), i.e. Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Vichar Shivir will begin in the state capital at Pujari Park (Dhamtari road) from Saturday. The two-day meeting will be prominently focused on discussions over pathetic conditions of farmers across the country and initiatives taken by the Centre to bring relief for them, informed Ishwarchandra Hosmani, morcha’s national general secretary while interacting with the media persons at Ekatma Parisar on Friday.
“The morcha will also prepare a list of demands to mount pressure on the Union government to improve the agriculture sector by inducting reformatory measures and to launch different schemes for the farmers,” he said.
The BJPKM members will further give their opinion on morcha’s vision document – ‘kisan aur Krishi in Bharat’, he informed.
In the meeting, a comprehensive report will be presented on the conditions responsible for suicidal cases of farmers in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
“The major victims of Centre’s anti-farmer policies were cotton growers of Maharashtra’s Vidharbha region. About 5000 farmers committed suicide in this region from 2005 to 2009. Similarly, about 1313 farmers committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh from 2005 to 2007,” Hosmani informed.
“It is very unfortunate that the state government and the Union government failed to prevent it. Our national leaders will provide guidance in this convention,” said Hosmani.
Taking a dig at the centre for posing indifference towards farmers, he said “The increasing inflation has burdened the farmers with agriculture loans and now they find this sector less remunerative than others.”
When indicated that the Chhattisgarh government was giving preference to the industrialists instead of farmers and not only selling multi-crop lands to the power plants but also giving irrigation water to the industries in spite of BJP’s claims that it supports farmers, Hosmani said he was not aware of such development in the state and would certainly put it in the national executive to ensure that the rights of the farmers are not trespassed.
He further informed that the morcha would also demand from the Centre to announce minimum support price (MSP) of the crops before sowing of the seeds and relief packages for farmers who live in the regions where rainfall was scanty.
The chief guest of the meeting’s inaugural session would be BJP’s former national president Rajnath Singh while the Chief Minister Raman Singh brief the morcha members about the farmer-oriented schemes launched the Chhattisgarh government. The morcha’s national president Om Prakash Dhankad will chair the national executive meeting.
On February 27, 2011, the BJP national president Nitin Gadkari will speak on morcha’s role in BJP, Centre’s anti-farmer policies and BJPKM’s national agendas for farmers.
Hosmani informed that the members of national executive, office-bearers of all the states and district president and general secretaries would be attending the shivir. Besides, the morcha’s state incharges have also been invited to attend the shivir.
The meeting will start with registration for which all the delegates have been informed to reach the shivir venue by 1 pm on February 26, he said.
The shivir will conclude on February 27 followed by a conference of Chhattisgarh farmers organised by the morcha. Hosmani has urged all the invited delegates to attend the conference after morcha’s national executive meeting.

Centre deceived Chhattisgarh again in rail budget: BJP

Raipur, February 25, 2011

Terming the rail budget presented by Union Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee on Friday as the weakest budget, the BJP slammed the Centre for deceiving Chhattisgarh again by not fulfilling its demands regarding commencement of new trains and rail projects.
“It is an ordinary rail budget that has nothing for Chhattisgarh except two trains and one project. The Centre completely neglected the South East Central Railway (SECR), the highest revenue generating railway zone in the state,” charged the state BJP president Ramsewak Paikra while commenting on the budget on Friday.
“The rail budget is symptomatic of the dismal condition of the Union government. Its larger approach is to do nothing. It has run out of ideas,” he added.
“This budget is for status quo, devoid of any vision or roadmap for the Indian Railways,” he said.
The BJP general secretary Shivratan Sharma said that the Congress-led UPA government had conspired against the BJP ruled states, especially Chhattisgarh and had kept it deprived of its deserving share in the budget.
“The Railway finances and performance are in a mess. No significant steps have been taken to strengthen the tracks and improve the security apparatus of the Indian Railways. These steps taken by the Union Railway Ministry during the NDA government had helped to turnaround the story of the Railways” he said.
“The cash surplus of the Indian Railways which was Rs 25000 crores in the financial year 2007-08 has now shrunk to just Rs 1328 crores. The Railway is depending upon extensive borrowing. The turnaround story of the Indian Railways is over. Its annual plan is proposed to be financed through gross budgetary support of Rs 20 crores, diesel cess of Rs. 1041 crores, market borrowings of Rs 20594 crores through IRFCs, and tax free bonds of Rs 10000 crores,” said the BJP district president Ashok Pandey.
“In her previous two budgets, the Railway Minister had concentrated on several non-core activities such as construction of hotels, hospitals, medical colleges, malls, sports stadium and even proposed to take over a newspaper in the West Bengal. She had proposed to start several trains. Most of these projects proved to be non-starters. Most of the proposed trains are yet to see the light of the day,” he said
The BJP demanded that a performance budget should be presented by the Centre to inform the nation as to what its performance level has been in relation to the promises made by it.
“The Railway Minister is understandably concerned about the projects in her home state, including at Singur and Nandigram. We expect her to clarify as to where the land for these projects would be made available for,” asked Bharatiya Janata Yuwa Morcha members.
They pointed the rail budget had nothing for the unemployed youths and small towns. “It is a directionless budget that does not promise any job opportunity to the youngsters,” they said.

Rail budget a big relief for common man: Cong

Raipur, February 25, 2011

Hailing the rail budget and appreciating the Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee for not increasing passenger and goods fare, the PCC said it was huge relief for common man.
“We welcome the initiatives taken by the Centre to expand rail services to remote parts of Chhattisgarh, especially to naxal-infested regions. The announcement of new rail line from Jagdalpur to Garhchirauli is the first step in this direction,” said PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, working presidents Charandas Mahant and Satyanarayan Sharma and party spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani on Friday.
They said the budget comprised packages for all sections of the society. “The Railways will construct 10000 houses under its Sukhi Grihasth Yojana to rehabilitate the poor who dwell near rail tracks, will now give facility of senior citizens to the women from 58 years of age, will allow disabled to travel in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains and will start new special train for students after successfully operating special trains for women,” they said.
