Govt to conduct SET to recruit Asst Professors

Raipur, February 15, 2011

The state government will soon conduct State Eligibility Test (SET) to recruit Assistant Professors. In this connection, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has give approval the state government’s proposal to organise SET on 18 subjects. The Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) will be the exam agency to organise SET, informed the officials of Higher Education Department on Tuesday.
Through SET, the vacant posts of Assistant Professor in all the government colleges across the state would be filled, the officials said. The recruitment of Assistant Professors is done by National Eligibility Test (NET) and SET.
The SET in Chhattisgarh has been organised only once back in 2006 in 12 subjects and about 220 candidates had cleared the exam. Ever since, the aspirants for Assistant Professor in the state never get an opportunity to appear in SET as the CPEB could not organise it again owing to UGC’s disapproval.
Later, when the Higher Education Department sent a proposal to the UGC to nod for SET again, a team of officials from the Commission arrived in the state on January 21, 2011 to ensure whether the CPEB should be given opportunity to conduct the exam or not.
On basis of the report submitted by the team, the UGC then consented that SET could be organised in the state. The Commission accepted all the subjects proposed by the Higher Education Department and also included two more subjects – Library Science and Physical Education so that the vacant seats in these disciplines could be filled simultaneously.
The other subjects on which SET would be conducted are – Hindi, English, Political Science, Economic, Social Science, History, Geography, Physical Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Life Science (Botany, Zoology and Microbiology), Computer Science and its Applications, Commerce, Law, Sanskrit and Psychology.

BJP will win Balod by-election: Singh

Raipur, February 15, 2011

The Bharatiya Janata Yuwa Morcha (BJYM) state president Sanju Narayan Singh has claimed that the BJP would win the Sanjari-Balod legislative Assembly by-election with huge margin. The party’s agenda in the by-poll was development on the basis of which it has already gained popularity across the state, said Singh. He said the BJP campaigned aggressively during the by-election and had appealed to the residents of Balod constituency to give it mandate again by distributing pamphlets, taking out bike rallies, cycle rallies, nukkad plays, door-to-door contacts and public meetings. He said since the turnout of female voters was more than male voters, the BJP would comfortably win the Sanjari-Balod seat.
