The last date of paddy procurement through 1589 procurement centres under 1333 primary cooperative societies of the state will be Thursday. The government commenced paddy procurement from November 1, 2010 and the last date was January 31, 2011.
But later, on request of farmers, the government extended the last date till February 10, 2011. However, the government would continue to purchase paddy through linking till February 15, 2011 to adjust the loan amount of those farmers who had taken long-term and short-term loans from District Cooperative Banks and Land Development Banks but failed to clear the dues timely.
The government has by far procured 41.189 lakh MT paddy from the farmers under minimum support price (MSP) and paid Rs 4753.57 crore to them. The government has procured 2920767 MT common paddy at the rate of Rs 2920.77 crore and 1779422 MT grade-A paddy at the cost of Rs 1832.80 crore.
The officials of Food and Civic Supplies Department informed that the highest amount of paddy has been procured from Raipur district, i.e. 998195 MT through 276 cooperative committees at the rate of Rs 1009.53 crore.
