Black panther found in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve

Raipur, February 09, 2011

A team of Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) engaged in counting of tigers in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve (Bilaspur district) has discovered a rare black panther in forest. The picture of the black panther was captured in the one of video cameras installed by the WTI team in different parts of the jungle. This is the first time that a black panther has been found in the entire central India, informed the Forest officials. The Principal Forest Conservator and incharge of Bilaspur Circle Diwakar Mishra informed that the black panthers are usually found dense forests where even the sunlight does not reach. He said the existence of black panther in the tiger reserve would impart it a unique identity across the country.

  1. hello mr. mishra, i chanced upon your blog while searching for the two black panther cubs that; along with their mother; have been photographed by the camera traps set up by forest officials and the WTI team. today i read the depressing news of a leopard having been killed in ATR region, allegedly for it's nails and teeth. Achanakmar Tiger Reserve with its wide range of flora and fauna has tremendous potential. the government should take concrete and concerted steps to ensure that the forest and it's wildlife is preserved, Achanakmar, if taken care of properly, will surely leave every other park of central India behind in times to come.
you are doing a great job. keep it up.
