Choubey asks CM to check migration

Raipur, November 08, 2012

Leader of opposition in state assembly Ravindra Choubey has asked Chief Minister Raman Singh to check migration from the state. In this connection, he also wrote a letter to the CM on Thursday.

“According to government figures, there might have been dip in migration, but the problem is grave and needs to be addressed thoroughly,” Choubey said.

“There are two categories of migrants in the state – the highly qualified and the illiterates/less educated. The government is unable to create job opportunities for both the categories. The migration rate of illiterates is much more than the qualified ones, especially the villagers who move to other states in search of job but get trapped by the labour contractors and spoil their life,” he said.

“One of the major reasons behind migration is government’s indifference towards effective implementation of host of Centrally-sponsored job-oriented schemes in rural pockets,” he said.

“The people residing in naxal-infested regions are migrating because the government failed to give them employment and security,” he said.

“Rapid industrialisation is another cause of migration. Agricultural lands and irrigation water are being given to the industrialists. Since industrial pollution is damaging crops, the affected farmers are compelled to migrate,” he said.

“The state is losing manpower and intellectual brains continuously. It is the government’s responsibility to create job opportunities for people at local level. For this, several schemes have been commenced and the only requisite is their sincere implementation,” he said.

He urged the CM to take cognisance of his letter and take steps to check migration from the state.
