Unseasonal rains: Jogi demands compensation for farmers

Raipur, November 05, 2012

Senior Congress MLA Ajit Jogi has demanded instant compensation for farmers whose crops got damaged due to recent unseasonal rains.

He further demanded proper arrangements in cooperative societies during paddy procurement process so that farmers may not face inconvenience.

“The farmers are again facing problems while selling their paddy at procurement centres this year. In fact, this is happening for the past couple of years, but the government has taken any measure to smoothen procurement process,” he alleged.

“The government is ignoring farmers and concentrating towards industrialisation. It has acquired large tracts of agricultural lands from farmers that resulted in marked reduction of crop area in last few years,” he said.

“The government’s wrong policies led to farmers’ miseries. It did not fulfil its promise to provide free electricity to farmers for irrigation. The farmers are unable to clear their loans and hence committing suicide. Certainly, the BJP government is not a well-wisher of farmers,” he added.

Govt responsible for CISF jawans’ killing

Holding government responsible for killing of two Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans by Maoists in Dantewada district, Jogi said regretted that the government could not frame effective policy to deal the extremists in last nine years.

“The tribals are insecure due to predominance of naxals.  Development works are being done only on papers and the people are not getting benefit of any scheme. The people living in naxal-infested regions are severely upset with the BJP government and their ire will reflect in upcoming assembly and general elections,” he said.
