Choubey asks govt to curb industrial mishaps

Raipur, November 02, 2012

Leader of opposition at state assembly Ravindra Choubey has asked the government to curb rising industrial accidents by tightening noose on norm-violating units.

“The state has marked rapid industrialisation in last 10-12 years but the government failed to maintain pressure on the production units to provide adequate safety arrangements for labourers,” he said.

Citing example of BALCO chimney case and recently held mishap in Urla-based industry Pragati Ingot and Power Limited Choubey said the giant industrialists use their money-power to escape punishment when any accident occurs in their production units. He also held responsible the industrials health and security department for not remaining vigilant.

“There are over 1500 industrial units in Raipur district and majority are violating norms in terms of provision of requisite safety measures for workers. The staffers of relevant government departments are supposed conduct regular inspection of industrial units but they are not discharging their responsibilities sincerely. The condition of workers of factories located in other districts is worse,” he said.
