Students must choose subject of their interest: Netam

Technical and higher education minister Ramvichar Netam says that students should select subject of interest while pursuing their studies. “The state government is taking all possible measures to create ample job opportunities for the passouts,” he said during his address at a day-long convention of Chhattisgarh State Skill Development Mission (CSSDM) held at Naya Raipur on Tuesday.

The convention was attended by several government officials along with more than 5000 students of engineering, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), nursing, polytechnics and higher secondary schools from across the state.

The CSSDM officials informed that the objective of their organisation was to train each and every citizen of the state by 2022 through conventions. 

Through convention, the CSSDM wanted to create awareness about various employment-oriented short-term courses in various fields like retail, Information Technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITes), the officials said.

During convention, the CSSDM also launched a website - www.cssdm.in  to enable students to fetch details about different employment-oriented courses. The site will also act as an online counselling system with experts giving advices to individual students, the officials said.

Along with the website, the CSSDM released a book for career counselling. On the occasion, the CSSDM representatives informed the participants that the state government had initiated an interest-free education loan chief minister higher education interest-free loan scheme. The nodal bank for this loan will be Canara Bank. The scheme provides loan for any professional courses to students with family income of less than Rs two lakh per annum. To mark a beginning of the scheme, seven engineering students were given loan at the convention by the minister himself.

The CSSDM representatives further informed that the state government in collaboration with IIM Raipur had commenced special programmes exclusively for students of Chhattisgarh. The declaration pertaining to this provision was done during the global investors’ summit held on November 2 and 3 in the backdrop of Rajyotsav 2012 celebrations at Naya Raipur.

The state government has also assured that special resource centres/institutes will be set up in different part of the state, they said.
