Congress on Thursday said the government was deceiving people on the name of Rajyotsav and global investors’ meet.
“The government will waste Rs 400 crore on Rajyotsav. This money actually belongs to people of Chhattisgarh and the government has no right to misuse it in this manner,” said Congress general secretary Ramesh Warlyani and chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi.
“Similarly, Chief Minister Raman Singh has made empty claims like several pacts would be signed in investors’ meet and large number of new jobs would be created,” they said.
“In nine years, the government signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) of about Rs two lakh crore with industrialists but only 15 percent of this massive amount, i.e. Rs 24500 crore has been invested by far. This investment has been done to expand the already established industries in state, not to set up new units. In fact, majority of the MoUs could not come to practical reality from papers,” they said.
“The government is squandering natural resources of the state but no new jobs have been created for the unemployed by the so-called investors till date,” they said.
They regretted that the government did not hesitate in paying fat sum to movie star Kareena Kapoor, but refused to appropriately compensate the farmers whose lands have been acquired for development of Naya Raipur.
“Moreover, the government inaugurated Rajyotsav at the hands of tainted BJP president Nitin Gadkari which is insult to people of Chhattisgarh,” they added.
Do not invite law breakers in investors’ meet: Akbar
Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar said the government should refrain from inviting law violating industrial groups in global investors’ meet.
“The government should ensure that the law breaking industrial groups who are alleged to have funded Maoists, stolen water, established illegal power plants and transported huge amount of bauxite to Orissa may not attend investors’ meet,” he said.
