Was Mahant the surprising guest at airport inauguration?

Raipur, November 07, 2012

Despite not being given place in invitation card, union minister of state for agriculture and food processing industry Charandas Mahant on Wednesday attended inaugural function of Mana-based Swami Vivekanand airport’s new terminal building. For audience that included bigwigs from both BJP and Congress, Mahant was a surprising guest.

The Congress had already expressed its displeasure over ‘no inclusion’ of the names of its senior leaders in invitation card. The state unit had lodged complaint about it to the high command.

According to information, the matter reached to union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh who in turn reprimanded the officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) for neglecting the names of senior Congress leaders (including Mahant) in invitation card.

The AAI quickly came into action and rush to do the damage control exercise by coaxing Mahant to attend the airport inaugural function. The union civil aviation minister and AAI chairman Vijay Prakash Agrawal talked to Mahant and tried to placate him.

Eventually, Mahant was seen arriving along with President Pranab Mukherjee at the airport inaugural function.

Later, the Congmen complained to union civil aviation minister that chief minister Raman Singh and Swami Vivekanand airport controller Anil Rai deliberately neglected the names of senior leaders of principal opposition.
