Govt does not exist in Bastar: Congress

Raipur, November 09, 2012

Condemning naxal attack on former leader of opposition in state assembly and senior congress leader Mahendra Karma near Dantewada district headquarters on November 8, the PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey said it happened because the government did not exist in Bastar.

“The attack on senior tribal leader exposes BJP government’s negligence and indifference towards security of the public representatives as well as common man in Bastar,” they said.

“Karma is having Z plus security, however, he has been attacked by Maoists thrice in the past. Many of his relatives too lost their lives in naxal incidents. Karma is a courageous person. He has overtly supported the government in its fight against terrorism, nevertheless, there was lapse in security,” they said.

“Karma’s tour programmes are being conveyed to security and intelligence agencies much earlier so that the adequate security cordon could be laid in the areas where he goes. Still, if naxals succeed in attacking him then it is a major security failure,” they said demanding stern action against negligent officials.

“It is really unfortunate that Bastar lacks development and peace despite the BJP getting deciding vote to form the government from this region,” they said.

They alleged that the government was less bothered about state and people and more concerned about its political benefits.
