Over 250 Congress workers will join the party’s poll campaign in Bastar Lok Sabah area by May 1, 2011. In this connection, the PCC president Nand Kumar Patel and leader of the Congress Legislators’ Party (CLP) Ravindra Choubey convened meeting of the office-bearers of PCC, DCC and block Congress committees at Congress Bhawan on Wednesday.
The duo asked the partymen to quickly the join the hustings and start campaigning booth-wise in all the eight Assembly areas of Bastar Lok Sabha constituency.
Both Patel and Choubey asked the Congmen to inform the people of Bastar that the state government never posed seriousness towards their problems owing to which the region remained underdeveloped and affected by naxals. The party workers have also been asked to inform the locals that all the schemes and projects existing in the region were sponsored by the Centre, not state government.
The District Congress Committee (DCC) president Inderchand Dhariwal informed that he would leave for Bastar along with DCC office-bearers and workers on April 29.
The office-bearers of PCC, block Congress Committees, Pradesh Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, PCC Sewa Dal, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and party’s other morchas and cells would reach Bastar from April 30 to May 3.
The incharge general secretary of state Congress BK Hariprasada, incharge secretary V Hanumantha Rao, AICC treasurer Motilal Vora and Rajya Sabha member Mohsina Kidwai would campaign for the party from May 3-5.
The Korba Lok Sabha member Dr Charandas Mahant too will join the poll campaign in next couple of days. He is said to have discussed about the election strategy with Patel recently.
The senior party leader Vidya Charan Shukla will leave for Bastar on Friday. He will campaign there for three days.
Patel has also urged the party leader Pawan Diwan to take public meetings in Bastar. Diwan is likely to reach Bastar by April 30. Patel said the party would throw its full might to win the Bastar Lok Sabha seat.
Time to show unity: Hariprasada

The incharge general secretary of state Congress BK Hariprasada has asked the senior leaders to forget factions and campaign unitedly in Bastar for the party candidate Kawasi Lakhma. He said the by-poll would be an acid test for Congress and the workers would have to display unity and aggression to win the Bastar Lok Sabha seat. Hariprasada gave significant tips to the senior leaders on April 26 night at state capital after he returned from his two-day Bastar visit. He left for New Delhi on Wednesday morning. He said the party’s victory in Bastar would help it to get its strength back and prepare for the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with renewed enthusiasm. He has also asked the PCC president Nandkumar Patel to prepare comprehensive report of Bastar by-election that should include list of those workers who deliberately distanced themselves off from the hustings in spite of party leadership’s directives. He categorically said that stern disciplinary action against those who would go against party line during by-polls.

Bastar by-poll: Over 250 Congmen to join hustings
The senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla will be on three-day tour to Bastar from Thursday. He will join the poll campaign of the party for the Lok Sabha by-election slated to be held on May 8, 2011. He will leave for Bastar on Thursday morning and address public meeting at Hirapur (Makdi) in Kanker district at 2:30 pm. Thereafter, he will address public meetings at village Mulmula at 3:30 pm and village Dahikonga at 6 pm. On April 29, he will address three public meetings besides convening meeting of party workers in different places of Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. On April 30, he would be accompanied by PCC president Nandkumar Patel in Jagdalpur. There he will address public meetings at Bairamgarh at 12 pm and Bijapur at 2 pm.
