Boycott govt’s Gram Suraj campaign: Cong

Raipur, April 25, 2011

The Congress has appealed to the people to boycott the state government’s Gram Suraj campaign. Pointing out towards the incidents of officials being kept as hostage by villagers when they approached them to know their problems, the PCC president Nandkumar Patel said that the gram Suraj campaign was no more credible and it failed because of the government’s lethargy.
“The government remains apathetic towards the pending development works in the rural pockets throughout the year and suddenly tries to prove itself as the well-wisher of the villagers in ten days of Gram Suraj. The people have realised that the BJP government is simply deceiving them on the name of such campaigns,” Patel said.
“The panchayati raj system has completely failed in the state because of corruption. The condition of villages is worst. The state government’s development works are non-existent in rural areas and only the schemes and projects sponsored by the Centre are on progress. Moreover, illegal sale of liquor has increased,” he said.
He further slammed the government for posing indifference towards the children, women and old age people. “The government schools in villages are being operated without any obstacle because the Union government has provided fund for them. The Centre’s fund is also taking care of pregnant women living in the rural areas and providing them life saving drugs and meals. Besides, the old age pension scheme too has been launched by the Centre. Unfortunately, the state government is nowhere in rural belts,” he said.
