The Youth Congress (YC) workers burnt effigies of PHE Minister Kedar Kashyap and Jagdalpur SP P Sundarraj at dharna spot near Sports Complex Budhapara on Monday in protest against the arrest of their fellow workers in Jagdalpur on May 8, 2011. They alleged that the YC workers led by their former state president Yogesh Tiwari and Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari were held while they were protesting against the local and police administrations for deliberately ignoring fatal attack on one Congress worker Pappu Tiwari in village Sonarpal (Jagdalpur district) recently. “About 50-60 goons vandalised Pappu’s dhaba at Sonarpal and beat him badly, however, the police did not take any action against them,” they charged. They further alleged that both Kashyap and Sundarraj were protecting the goons and indicated that vandals were hired by the minister’s kin Khetu Kashyap.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Dhirendra Sharma has said that the Forest department would not do unplanned plantation in future. “People have stopped trusting the department’s plantation drives because majority of the saplings die in the absence of any proper planning,” he said.
Sharma felt that the plantation drives would only be successful when an organised work-plan would be framed to plant saplings. “We will also refrain from carrying out nursery development works under Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in haste,” he said.
He further said that the department was committed to maintain transparency in carrying out all the works. “For me, all the officials and employees of the department are equal and I am always there to heed their problems,” he said.
