Patel assumes office, urges Congmen to uproot BJP

Amidst celebrations, bursting of crackers and in presence of hundreds of Congress workers, the Kharsiya legislator Nand Kumar Patel assumed the office of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president at Congress Bhawan on Monday.
In his first address to the party workers after assuming the office of PCC chief, Patel urged them to unite and uproot the BJP government from the state. He said the party aimed to win the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections for which all the workers would have to show aggression, energy and enthusiasm.
The other senior leaders also addressed party workers. Jogi said the post of PCC president was full of thorns and asked Patel to handle the party carefully. He appealed to the partymen to join hands and make united effort to bring back Congress regime in state.
Former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu hoped that Patel would use his vast experience in politics to steer the party effectively.
The Leader of the Opposition at Vidhan Sabha Ravindra Choubey hailed AICC head Sonia Gandhi’s decision to appoint Patel as new state unit chief. He hoped that the party would win the Bastar by-poll and coming Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections under Patel’s leadership.
Patel, who had been Home Minister during the tenures of former chief ministers Digvijay Singh and Ajit Jogi, was accompanied by large number of supporters when he proceeded towards Congress Bhawan from his Devendra Nagar residence at 1 pm on Monday. He was warmly welcomed by the party workers at different squares and triangles before he reached Congress Bhawan at 2 pm.
On the occasion, the Congress legislators who were present were – Mohammad Akabar, Dharamjeet Singh, TS Singhdeo, Kuldeep Juneja, Dr Renu Jogi, Guru Rudra Kumar, Bhajan Singh Nirankari, Lekhram Sahu, Ambika Markam, Chaitram Sahu, Jaisingh Agrawal, Shivraj Usare, Dr Shiv Kumar Daharia and Agni Chandrakar.
The other prominent party leaders present in the Congress Bhawan were - Arvind Netam, Bupesh Baghel, Tarun Chaterjee, Radheshyam Sharma, Swaroopchand Jain, Arun Vora, Vidhan Mishra, Subhash Sharma, president of Pradesh Mahila Congress (PMC) Vani Rao, PMC working president Kalpana Patel, Ramesh Varlyani, Abdul Hamed Hayat, DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal, Mahendra Chhabra, Ashok Raj Ahuja and large number of Congress workers.



Highlights when Nand Kumar Patel assumed office of PCC president

The Congress Bhawan was flooded by large number of party workers. The new PCC president Nand Kumar Patel, former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, Leader of the Opposition at Vidhan Sabha Ravindra Choubey and former PCC working president Satyanarayan Sharma had to struggle to reach stage because of over crowded party office.
Both Patel and Choubey were wearing Gandhi caps.
Congress workers welcomed Patel with Human sized garland.
The party workers continued bursting crackers and sloganeering in favour of Patel while he assumed office.
Jogi faction was most active. They not only displayed strength, but also remained around Patel all the time.
