The New Delhi Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) has started grants-in-aid scheme to provide financial assistance to the cultural organisations across the country. The grant is given to the selected organisations engaged in the promotion of performing arts, namely, music, dance and drama. The officials of Culture department informed that the cultural organisations in the state can apply for financial aid to SNA till May 30, 2011.
The financial assistance will be provided on an annual basis to meet the expenditure on the salaries and stipends of teachers and students, honorarium and fees to the artists, expenses on new productions which will include rental charges and expenses on publicity, maintaining shows on a regular basis and cost of establishment (including cost of administrative staff up to 15% of the total amount of the grant), informed the officials.
The scheme will also provide support to the folk performing parties in various regions working in the fields of music, dance and drama so that they could sustain their activities in their respective regions. The scheme will also encourage work in other specialised areas in the field of performing arts such as community singing and children's theatre, the officials said.
The SNA will further extend financial help for research and survey projects in the field of performing arts and purchase of stage and other technical equipment, they said.
To select the cultural organisations, a panel of experts called Grants Committee will consider applications and make recommendations regarding the disbursement of financial aid. The Grants Committee will keep in view the requirements of various fields, namely music, dance and drama and try for a proportionate allocation of funds. Minor institutions with annual expenditure below Rs 7000 will normally not be considered for sanction of grants.
The officials said canvassing in any form for securing financial assistance under the scheme will disqualify the applicant.
Revoke leaked PMT paper: NSUI

Protesting against the PMT paper leak episode, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has demanded from Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) to revoke the paper and conduct fresh exam. In this connection, the NSUI members led by their state general secretary Subodh Haritwal demonstrated in front of the CPEB office an and shouted slogans against the board. “The CPEB is playing with the future of the students and the NSUI would not tolerate this,” he said. Later, when Haritwal and other NSUI members were allowed to meet the CPEB exam controller BP Tripathi, the demonstrators said the credibility of the board was on stake after the PMT paper was leaked and loaded in the internet a day before the examination. They demanded from Tripathi to fix responsibility and order fresh exam. The NSUI demonstrators before CPEB office included Gulzeb Ahmed, Shahbaz Ahmed, Nadeem Salat, Shiva Khandelwal, Mona, Mayank Gulati and others.
Govt overachieves loan disbursal target

The state government has overachieved the target to disburse loan through banks under Swarna Jayanti Gram Rojgar Yojna (SJGRY) in 2010-11. According to the scheme, the loan is being provided to the people to start their own business. The officials of Panchayat and Rural Development Department informed that 105 percent loan was disbursed to the eligible beneficiaries under SJGRY in the last fiscal.
The officials informed that as against the target to distribute Rs 145.74 crore, the government disbursed Rs 153.36 crore. About 56057 beneficiaries received loans under SJGRY in 2010-11 which was 91 percent of the total target (i.e. 61814 beneficiaries), said officials.
Raigarh topped the list of overachieving districts and disbursed 125 percent loan amount. As against the target of 4767, the Raigarh district disbursed 5980 beneficiaries. The other districts that overachieved target were – Dhamtari – 113 percent (disbursed loans to 1756 beneficiaries against the target of 1564) and Jashpur – 108 percent (disbursed loans to 2405 beneficiaries against the target of 2228). The districts that achieved cent percent target were Kanker (disbursed loans to 1901 beneficiaries) and Korba (disbursed loans to 2561 beneficiaries).
CSIDC employee union to end its chain huger strike today

The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Corporation Limited (CSIDC) Adhikari Karmachari Sangh (CSIDCAKS) will end its chain hunger strike in favour of their demands that includes promotion and other provisions on Friday. The union has warned the corporation authorities of going on indefinite strike from May 16 again if their demands would not be fulfilled.
“We have frequently requested the CSIDC chairman Badridhar Diwan to pay heed to our demands, but he only gave empty assurances and refrained from taking any initiative,” said the union’s president RP Goswami and general secretary JP Mishra jointly on Thursday.
“There are 248 employees in CSIDC including 54 officers and 194 supporting staff. If we will go on indefinite strike then the not only the works in all of our offices across the state would be affected but also the corporation’s services to the industrial sector in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Pendra Road, etc would be obstructed,” the duo said.
The union started its strike on May 7, 2011. On Thursday, the patron of the union SK Sonwani, general secretary JP Mishra, Siltara industrial area incharge Vivek Kayade, SS Gupta and Mohammad Hasan Khan sat on hunger strike at CSIDC headquarters at Pandri.
On the occasion, the union’s another patron V Harihar Rao, president RP Goswami, YK Kashyap and HN Shrivastava addressed the members.
