The PCC’s new president and Kharsiya legislator Nand Kumar Patel says that Congress will fight Bastar Lok Sabha by-election with full strength and the party candidate Kawasi Lakhma will post thumping victory over BJP’s Dinesh Kashyap. Patel expresses this view while interacting with the media persons as his residence on Saturday.
He said the party would show united face in the by-poll to uproot the BJP from the tribal-populated region. He asked the workers to reach Bastar before April 24, 2011 to intensively campaign in favour of Lakhma.
“There is no need to wait for anyone’s permission. All the party workers have right to campaign for their candidate,” said Patel.
“Our sole aim is to defeat the BJP in the next Assembly and general elections and rid the people of Chhattisgarh from its bad governance. The Bastar by-poll is the first step through which we will advance to regain power in the state,” he said.
When asked about the party’s strategy for Bastar by-poll, he said soon he would hold meeting of the senior Congress leaders and chalk out plan for the hustings.
When asked whether he had to face tough challenge by the party’s other factions who had proposed the names of their favorite candidates for PCC president, he clarified that there was no resistance from any fellow party leaders and he was selected unanimously after Congress president Sonia Gandhi announced his name holding discussion with the senior leaders.
He further asserted that no camp or faction exists in state Congress and the party always worked unitedly.
