Cong is united, my job is to sharpen it: Patel

The new president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Nand Kumar Patel says that the party has always been united and he is simply the medium who has got the responsibility to sharpen and organise it. Patel uttered these words while he was formally interacting with the media persons as PCC president for the first time after assuming the office at Congress Bhawan on Monday.
He said the party would play the role of strong Opposition in the state would protest the BJP government’s anti-people policies from Vidhan Sabha to streets. “We are aiming to win the next state Assembly elections in 2013 with joint effort for which we will start our preparations from now onwards,” Patel said.
He not only expressed his gratitude to the party supremo Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and AICC treasurer Motilal Vora for his selection as PCC chief, but also paid equal regards to state’s senior leaders including former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, Leader of the Opposition at Vidhan Sabha Ravindra Choubey and Vidya Charan Shukla.
Specially thanking the former state unit head Dhanendra Sahu, Patel said, “Sahu steered the party effectively and now it is my job to uphold the enthusiasm of the workers.”
He, however, admitted that Sahu failed at certain crucial junctures during his regime and asserted he would ensure such instance would not occur during his tenure.
He denied that he would have to face any challenge in the party and said whatever obstacle would surface, he would handle it confidently.
When asked who would be the party’s poll coordinator for Bastar by-election, he said the decision would be taken unanimously at party meting in the next coming days.
To a query regarding the party’s strategy against BJP, he refused to divulge the plans and said the result would be apparent and people would know about it very soon.
When asked which camp he belongs in the party, Patel quipped, “I only belongs Sonia Gandhi’s camp.”
Asked how he would react to the increasing affinity of some of the senior Congress leaders as a couple even were dubbed as 14th or 15th minister of the BJP Cabinet, Patel said, “None of Congress leaders is close to BJP and some people only make false presumptions.”
When inquired about Senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma’s resentment after he was not selected as candidate for Bastar by-poll and his silent disappearance, Patel clarified that the tribal leader was not upset and he had rather gone home to Jagdalpur owing to some urgent family works.
