Gram Suraj campaign a deception: Patel

Raipur, April 19:, 2011

The newly appointed PCC president Nand Kumar Patel has termed the BJP government’s Gram Suraj campaign as deception and said that the Chief Minister Raman Singh was playing with the emotions of the poor farmers and common man.
He said the government received thousands of complaints in the previous Gram Suraj campaign and the CM too made several announcements during his visits to rural pockets, but no action was taken by far.
“The departments have made files of complaints but hardly take interest in solving them. Similarly, several schemes and projects announced by the CM have not been brought to practical footing either due to lack of budgetary provision or because of indifference of the implementing agencies,” he said.
“In Gram Suraj campaign, the government usually receives complaints pertaining to drinking water, irrigation, electricity, road, land-related problems, etc. These problems can easily be handled by the officials of relevant departments, tehsildar and SDM, but unfortunately, the CM is dealing such issues which indicate that there is no administration from top to bottom in the government,” he said.
“The people now understand the BJP government’s gimmicks and they do not believe on Gram Suraj campaign anymore. This has resulted in boycott of this campaign in some parts of the state. The Jashpur Collector has even ordered to take legal action against those who would oppose the campaign,” he said.
Patel further said that the BJP had neither fulfilled its promise of distributing Rs 270 bonus to the farmers nor given free-of-cost electricity to them for irrigation purpose. “The BJP made these promises during the elections but now refuses to fulfill it,” he said.
He said the CM should apologise for continuously making false promises to the villagers during Gram Suraj campaign and compelling them to live in abject condition.
