The Youth Congress (YC) on Thursday burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Raman Singh in its protest to the arrest of Amit Jogi who was going to submit a memorandum to the Jagdalpur municipal Commissioner objecting hike in water and property taxes. The YC’s Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari said that the government was denting common man’s pockets by increasing taxes and providing river and dam water to the industrialists ignoring farmers. “It is unfortunate that whenever we oppose the anti-people decisions of the government, it misuses its powers and takes repressive action against us,” Tiwari said.
