FLIP SIDE - Ego clash

Yogesh Mishra

A top civic official has gone on long leave due to his differences with the minister of relevant department. But do you know why this official has dared to lock horn with the minister? It is because the official does not want to please the minister by sycophancy, but by his performance that, according to him, always traverses the best mark. The minister does not like his attitude. He wants the official to condescend before him as others do. The minister has even threatened the official that his headstrong demeanour would land him someday on remote woodlands of the state. The official remains unmoved by such ‘transfer threats’. He says he was on deputation in the municipal corporation and he would not mind if the minister would send him back to his parent department. At work, this official has gained popularity due to his dedication towards given tasks. He has also earned distinction in formulating solutions of urban issues and the municipal is completely dependent on him on some of its centrally-sponsored projects. Hence, one fine day, when the minister reiterated the same archaic sentence, the official smiled derisively and went on long leave in search of mental peace.
