BSNL employee union defers indefinite strike

Raipur, June 13, 2012

The BSNL employee union on Wednesday postponed its indefinite strike after it held a long discussion with the management and signed a five-point pact on June 12.
The union’s divisional secretary SC Bhattacharya informed that the employees were scheduled to go on indefinite strike from Wednesday but the management agreed to sign a pact with the union to avert disruption of BSNL services.
The management agreed to give benefit of salary amendment to its staffers and will add 78.2 percent industrial DA to their basic salary from January 1, 2007. The pensioners will also get this benefit.
The management will revise rates of allowances like medical compensation allowance, professional upgradation allowance, house rent allowance (HRA) on April 1, 2013. These allowances are currently being disbursed to the staffers on basic salary based on 68.8 percent DA.
The other allowances like education allowance for children (including tuition fee and hostel subsidy) and family planning allowance would be disbursed at current rate.
The cases under child care leave will be forwarded to BSNL board for reconsideration.
The BSNL will constitute a committee that will recommend provision of pension benefit to those staffers who had been recruited directly according to directives and guidelines of Government of India.
