Patel demands medical college in Bhilai

Raipur, June 11, 2012

PCC president Nandkumar Patel has demanded new medical college at Bhilai from Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma. He asked the minister that Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) should upgrade sector-9 hospital and open a new medical college there. Patel put his demand during Verma’s brief visit to Congress Bhawan on Monday.
Patel said the BSP should play significant role in helping small industrial units. He also demanded that the BSP should be controlled by Union Steel ministry instead of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). He said the separate existence of BSP would show its contribution in development of the country and Steel ministry.
He further urged the minister to implement sixth phase of housing lease for BSP staff like that being implemented by Bokaro Steel Plant. He also urged the minister to appoint a personnel director in BSP through whom the appointment process of new staff and transfers of existing staff could be done. For this, he demanded that the post of personnel director should be filled by a person acquainted with Chhattisgarh.
Terming BSP as important manufacturing unit of the state, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey said the minister should take initiative to provide jobs to the locals in it. He also advocated for local representation in BSP management. He said the BSP should also contribute in education and health sectors.
Pointing that the locals had played key role in progress of BSP, former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla said the BSP should also prioritise in meeting requisites of the local people.
Verma assured that the Centre would take positive step on demands of state Congress leaders. He said the Centre would certainly make efforts in creating job opportunities for locals in the state through BSP and in opening a new medical college in Bhilai.
“The government organisations are supposed to provide jobs to the people and if they would cease to create vacancies then their existence would be worthless,” Verma said.
