Sharply reacting on Chief Minister Raman Singh’s remark that the Centre had deceived farmers by slightly hiking paddy MSP by Rs 250 per quintal, the Congress on Wednesday that it was state government not the Centre which was deceiving farmers for the past eight years.
“Before giving sarcastic comment on Centre’s positive gesture towards the farmers the BJP government should first fulfill its promise of Rs 270 paddy bonus it had made back in 2008 Assembly polls,” said PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey caustically.
“The Congress has taken this step in favour of the paddy farmers. The UPA government in its previous tenure had hiked the paddy MSP by Rs 450 in five years and in current tenure it has hike the paddy MSP by Rs 430 in four years. Ironically, the BJP terms the recent hike in paddy MSP unsatisfactory despite knowing that its own NDA government at Centre had hiked paddy MSP merely by Rs 60 in five years,” the duo ridiculed.
They reminded the government that it ought to give Rs 3880 crore paddy bonus at the rate of Rs 270 since 2008 to the farmers and it should follow the Centre’s initiative and announce release of pending paddy bonus amount.
