The membership campaign of Youth Congress (YC) will conclude on June 20. The YC poll officers have started collecting membership applications and fees at each Lok Sabha headquarters including Raipur based Congress Bhawan, informed the pradesh returning officer (PRO) Harpal Singh Thakur.
Thakur informed that Lok Sabha returning officers (LROs) had been assigned the task to collect membership applications and fees. “The application of the new members should comprise of stipulated documents like identity card and age proof.
Notably, the YC membership campaign had commenced in the state on May 24, 2012 from Congress Bhawan. The formal announcement of the drive was done by YC poll commissioner Sachin Nayak in presence of state Congress president Nandkumar Patel, veteran leader Vidya Charan Shukla and MLA Ajit Jogi.
This time, the existing YC members too renewed their membership according to new format of the polls.
After membership drive, the YC elections will be held. About 2000 returning officers are said to be engaged in YC polls. With Chhattisgarh going to polls in 2013, the YC has targeted to constitute committee in every booth. Moreover, 33 percent organisational posts in the organisation will be reserved for women.
To shift equilibrium towards Congress during polls, the YC’s national leadership had given target to the existing workers to touch the figure of 10 lakh members during the drive, however, it proved to be a distant dream for the organisation with no efforts being put at ground level. Presently, the YC has 377000 members in the state while the number of female members is over 1.50 lakh.
This time, YC elections will be organised in 20937 booth committees. There will be five office-bearers (president – 1, vice president – 1, general secretary – 3) in every booth-committee. All the three posts of general secretary will be reserved for backward class, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and women.
Similarly, there will be ten posts each in Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha and state committees. In these committees, the posts of president, one post each of vice president and general secretary will be unreserved.
