Toll plaza issue: Cong submits memo to Principal Secy

Raipur, June 23, 2012

A day after Congress announced that it would launch massive protest movement against construction of toll plaza at Ring Road No 1 near Sundar Nagar, a delegation of the party on Saturday knocked the doors of the government seeking its intervention into the matter and assurance that the toll plaza would be shifted out of municipal limits. The delegation met PWD Principal Secretary RP Mandal and handed him over a memorandum on the name of Chief Secretary pertaining to toll plaza issue.
The delegation apprised Mandal that the government and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had decided in 2007-08 that the toll plaza would be constructed outside the city limits to check public resistance.
The delegation expressed it surprise that despite reaching to a certain decision in 2007-08 the government allowed the NHAI to build toll plaza near Sundar Nagar.
“We have informed Mandal about the public resentment on toll plaza issue. He has assured us that he would hold a meeting with the Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar on June 26 and then the final decision would be taken,” the delegation said.
On the occasion, the delegation was comprised of DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal, RMC mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, general secretary Dr Niranjan Haritwal, RMC mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Congress business cell president Kanhaiyya Agrawal, Sushil Sachdev, RMC corporators Gyanesh Sharma, Pramod Jagdish Ahuja, etc.
