Large number of slum dwellers from Ishwar Nagar, Amit Nagar and Sumit Nagar led by chief organiser of Congress Sewa Dal Ashok Raj Ahuja met CLP leader Ravindra Choubey at his residence on Monday and informed him that the government was forcibly evicting them from their areas.
Seeking his help into their mater, the slum dweller submitted a memorandum to Choubey.
They informed him that they were residing in their respective areas since 1990 and the then chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh disbursed pattas to them in 1998.
They also quoted Supreme Court order that slum dweller should not be removed amidst June 15 to September 15 due to rainy season and indicating that they had admitted their children in the nearby schools, they requested Choubey to talk to government on their behalf and urge it not to take action against them at least on humanity grounds.
On the occasion, Ahuja said the Congress would not allow the BJP government to implement its anti-poor policies and strongly protest any action against the slum dwellers of Ishwar Nagar, Amit Nagar and Sumit Nagar. “We will also stage court arrest in favour of these slum dwellers,” he said.
