Cong terms arrest of two naxal suspects fake

Demands CBI probe into the matter

Raipur, June 13, 2012

A day after Raipur police arrested two naxal suspects the Congress quickly came into their rescue terming them innocents and quoting entire arrest drama as “fake”. “Both naxal suspects Anjali Chouhan and Abdul Mujeeb have been trapped by the police and the incident is identical with all other fake naxal surrender incidents in the past,” said Congress vice president and Konta MLA Kawasi Lakhma while interacting with media persons on Wednesday.
Reiterating allegations of Mujeeb’s father H Abdul Hakeem who said that Anjali and Mujeeb were arrested near Sukma on June 6, not at Raipur on June 12, Lakhma said the police should clarify why the actual spot of the arrest was not disclosed.
“Both were held while they were on way to Konta in the four-wheeler Bolero (CG-18/4455) which was being driven by Mukhtar. Sarpanch Uika Budhru and koya commando Mudrad were also travelling in the same vehicle when Anjali and Mujeeb were trapped by the police. Surprisingly, the koya commando and driver are missing since then,” elaborated Lakhma.
He said condition of tribals in Bastar was grim and the government was intentionally victimising innocents on false charges of extremists. “This has led to migration in the tribal region as people do not trust this government at all,” said Lakhma.
Asked the basis of his claims of innocence of the two naxal suspects he said he knew them very well for the past twenty years as they were from his constituency.
Asked his take over seizure of cartridges and cash from the duo when they were caught, he said everything can be planted if the arrest spot can be changed. He, however, hastened to add that he was only terming the arrest as fake and if the government did not trust the opposition then it can conduct probe into the entire matter through CBI.
Asked when he was so sure of innocence of the two naxal suspects then why the Congress did not complain about it to the top police officials or the Chief Minister, he stammered and said – ‘though the Congress did not approach any of the top brasses of the government, naxal suspect Anjali’s mother certainly tried to put her stand before senior police officials but were shown deaf ears’.
When asked about the next move of Congress into this matter he said it would decided in coming days. “If the government will not stop arresting innocent people on fake charges of Maoists, then Congress will resort to legal battle in favour such victims besides extending them political support,” he added.
