State Congress general secretary Bhupesh Baghel has alleged that the
ruling party was politicise vikas yatra by misusing government funds. In this
regard, he has recently written letters to country’s chief election
commissioner (CEC) and state’s chief secretary and demanded to stop the yatra
immediately.
This
is sheer misuse of public money. The Constitution of India as well as Civil
Services Act prohibits misuse of government machinery for political works, he wrote.
He
pointed that while state-level preparatory meeting of the government yatra was
held at BJP office, the district-level meetings were being organised jointly by
government officials and BJP office-bearers.
The
statements of chief minister’s secretary Subodh Singh and state BJP president
Ramsewak Paikra on April 18, 2013 too confirm politicisation of vikas yatra, he
wrote.
He
further stated that as pre-election procedures commenced in Chhattisgarh with
revision of voter list the ruling party was not supposed to take out any yatra.
It
is also objectionable that the schedules of government’s vikas yatra have been
changed on directives of BJP’s national joint general secretary (organisation)
Saudan Singh, he wrote. Baghel also termed Singh’s directives as direct interference
by a representative of the ruling party in government activities.
He
further wrote that the ruling party aimed to organise meetings of
office-bearers of civic and panchayat bodies by spending government funds. The
government will also misuse transport department to carry BJP workers in such
meetings, he added.
